Hi all, I'm thinking of taking the aforementioned trip solo sometime in Summer, and I'm wondering how I should allocate my time between the cities. I'd be flying in and out from Munich. My initial itinerary was 10 days long and was as follows:

Munich: 4 days

Innsbruck: 3 days

Salzburg: 3 days

Does this seem like a good split of days between the cities? Keep in mind that I'd like to do a day-trip to Neuschwanstein whilst I'm in Munich. I wouldn't be opposed to doing a 8, 9 or 11 day trip either if the above itinerary seems too short or long. Any other recommendations? Thanks for reading!

Definitely not too long. I'd be tempted to spend four days in Salzburg and three in Munich, but it all depends on what you want to do. More time in Salzburg would give you time to make day trips to Salzkammergut and Berchtesgaden, Germany, but if really depends on your particular interests (and time of year).

Are you traveling by car or by train? Some of these ideas are easier by car. Your outline is good, put some thought into specific activities and come back here for input again. Here are some ideas to consider --

Day 1 -- Arrive Munich, rest and explore
Day 2 -- Munich, Maienplatz
Day 3 -- Munich
Day 4 -- Go to Salzburg, old town
Day 5 -- Salzburg, day trip to Berchtesgaden
Day 6 -- Salzburg, day trip to St Wolfgang
Day 7 -- Go to Innsbruck, old town
Day 8 -- Innsbruck
Day 9 -- Go to Fussen, Neuschwanstein
Day 10 -- Go to Munich, see a bit of Bavaria on the way
Day 11 -- Depart from Munich
