Robbed in Buenos Aires Marriott

A cautionary tale - I recently stayed at the Marriott in BA. I must say it is a lovely hotel in a great location. However, please note that my shopping parcels were taken from our room. If you do any shopping in BA, PLEASE take the time to hide your purchases in your suitcase or if possible, secure your items in the in-room safe. The Marriott was not able to help me at all. I did not replace my purchases so my family did not receive my special gifts!

Well that stinks. By any chance did you have travel insurance? If so you might be able to make a claim if you made a police report.

I don't expect this to make you feel any better but this can happen to anyone. Heck, the First Daugher Barbara Bush was robbed in Argentina. Here Secret Service detail was there but didn't notice when her purse was stolen at a restaurant. So even under the best of circumstances, anyone can be a victim.

But as we all know, crime is not unique to any one country and sometimes it's just luck of the draw. Sorry for your rotten luck, I hope you will be able to make a claim.

You know, call me crazy or whatever, But I've always had a thing for that first daughter Barbara Bush. Yummmmy. Except the gray hairdo, of course. Maybe a trip to Nordstroms and the hair salon and she wouldn't look so much like that Sophia Bush.

I lost leather goods like purses and wallets. I did speak to the head office and was told that their staff is of the highest calibre and nobody else could have entered my room and while they were sorry, they couldn't reimburse me or do anything else. I did make a police report but again, there was an attitude of "so what?"

jranger, I am so sorry that happened. I hope you post a review with the robbery on the TripAdvisor forums too. On the Buenos Aires forums.

From what I heard about the Bush daughters loss of her purse, she left it sitting and thought the SS guys would watch it, they were busy watching her.. the purse got lifted.

I have been in restaurants where I have seen waiters remind ladies to watch their purses .. you just have to keep your wits about you.
But as far as leaving things in a hotel room, that is shameful and I hope they get a lot of bad press over this.
Send you story to the newspaper lol ( yes, I am vengeful )

Well, that's one hotel to cross off my "potential stay" list! Thanks for the info.

I wanted to update this situation. I did indeed contact the head office in Washington, by way of a letter. I got an immediate response and my file was re-opened. I was issued some Marriott Rewards equivalent to a night's stay. I am happy with their follow-up and their attempt to make it up to me somewhat.

Didn't hear about the Bush daughter losing her purse in BA, but it's an intriguing tale. Gotta give the thief some credit for skill and chutzpah. A visiting super-VIP surrounded by security folks and he still manages to score her purse? It'll make his reputation forever amongst his peers.

"Across the great gulf of war, I salute a great general."

In reference to this inexcusable theft in the Marriott
Hotel in Buenos Aires I could not help thinking of the latest news:
Somali pirates seize a supertanker in the Arabian Sea.
We are talking of a 318,000- tonne tanker, three times the size of an aircraft carrier,......
I do not wish to be disrespectful and I sympathize with jranger..... I only wish to say there are thefts and thefts.... crazy world.
If it is any consolation a friend of mine was robbed while staying in a suite at the one of the top, top hotels in Paris a few years ago, the same guy who brought breakfast to their bed closed upon leaving the bedroom sliding doors, she had a hunch jumped out of bed and there he was taking money out of an opened briefcase, guess anything can happen today....

As long as you have a police report, you may check for insurance coverage from your homeowners' insurance company since personal property usually has coverage even if not in the home. Some policies exclude foreign countries, but it might be worth a phone call. Also some credit cards have insurance on purchses if you used a credit card for the purchases. Sorry to hear of your experience since BsAs can be wonderful, but it was good to hear Marriott did offer some remedy.
