Roatan advice

We are thinking about going to Roatan in the spring and hoping that some of the folks here might have some insight on where to stay and what to do. We love the beach and like to snorkel or snuba. We have been to Jamaica, Bahamas ( nassau and eluthra), Bonaire, and most recently San Pedro Belize ( Ramons ).

We enjoyed the great mix of activities in Belize and the proximity to town and snorkeling at shark ray alley. I admit I was tentative even with the nurse sharks, but once in .... it was really great. Snorkeling on Bonaire was great and it was really nice to be able to snorkel right off of the dock. How does Roatan compare to either San Pedro Belize or Bonaire

We are thinking about the west end and not sure if a resort or a house would be best. Any help would be appreciated.

i would suggest you to stay in a small hotel, i suggest splash inn. it has the dive center next to it (3,4 companies) in same area there areothey good small hotels. resorts such as henry morgan are nice if. you plan to relax an enjoy the sun. many of the resorts are all inclusive. roatan is more touristic than san pedro. many condomimiums. are been built, right now is also cruise season, you might find some days full of. tourist.

Thanks for the advice Franciscojose. I took a look at the splash inn web site and it looks like the main feature is the dive shop, lots of great dive comments. The hotel is not really what we are looking for. We stayed at Captain Don's in Bonaire and really enjoyed it. Small condo like homes with a full kitchen and nice deck on each unit. Best part was snorkeling or diving right off the dock. Is there any place like that in Roatan??
Thanks again for the advice

Then take a look at InfinityBay.com. My wife and I (along with my brother and his wife) have been there numerous times and loved it. It located on West Bay beach best on the island! You will not be disappointed in Infinity Bay. And check out VRBO.com for a cheaper stay...

Don't forget to check out Pineapple Villas. Located in the center of the Island, Close to French Harbor, CocoView, Fantasy Island and they have the best Sports Bar, Spa and Steakhouse on the island. Let alone probably some of the pettiest views in the morning. http://www.clarionsuitesroatan.com/

Thanks to all for the great advice. Unfortunately, my sister threw a wrench into the works at Thanksgiving and is insisting that we all go to Aruba and since Aruba is on the list of places we want to go we may just cave in.
Thanks again for the advice!
