This is a list that I have gathered over the years from this forum and Tripadvisor. Personally I have only used Leo Rodriguez when we are not renting a car or with our Tico friends.

I know that Wilson gets rave reviews and I've seen good ones on Carlos B., too. Hope this helps.

I just got back from CR and personally used both Carlos Bogarin and Leo Rodriguez...both recommended to me on fodor and both were excellent. I do know that Carlos lives near the San Jose area and Leo based more out of Liberia if this helps. Both were dependable, honest and very knowlegeable of the area. Good luck!

Carlos waited hours for us at the airport once when our flight was late, so he gets extra points from us. We've also booked drivers through our hotels when we reserve them, and that's a pretty easy way to do things.

We loved Wilson! Our flight from NYC was delayed 5 hrs. By the time we were to arrive at our hotel (Lost Iguana), the front desk was closed. Wilson, had checked our flight info, and I also was able to email him from NYC. He contacted the hotel of our late arrival. The hotel left our key with the security guard. Once at the hotel, he and the security guard helped settle us in (and it was late and we were tired).

He also stopped to pick up dinner to go on the way (it was late and we were hungry). His restaurant recs are great. We used him for an additional leg as well. Not only is he a great driver, but he's a smart and engaging person. We had wonderful conversations and learned so much about his country.

We recently recommended him to friends. They could not have been more delighted.

Try contacting Carlos Bogarin ([email protected]). He's the owner of a very professional private transportation company there, the drivers are just wonderful: knowledgeable, reliable, safe & flexible! My family used their services last year and we thought his prices were very reasonable for the great service provided.

Another vote for Wilson- a really nice guy who speaks english well. He drove us to Manuel Antonio and made sure to stop at all the interesting spots and good restaurants also brought snacks and kids cd's for our son to watch along the way. He and his wife also run a travel agency and he's made some great hotel recommendations for me in the past.

We have hired Oscar for each of our 3 trips to CR since 2006. My family is very fond of him and he is attentive, helpful, fun. Its like having a private guide for the trip not just a driver. He also does short trips as well, of course, getting folks from site to site.
i Offered to fly the family across CR during one trip and the kids said they'd rather drive the whole way, with Oscar
