I have been to Puebla many times and have taken cooking classes in another town nearby ( as well as other cooking classes in colonial towns in MX). I have a friend who took 3 days (3 hrs each day) of cooking classes at mesones sacrista . She said they were all great classes. and that the lady (I think it was Elizabeth or something similar) who taught the class to her ( it turned out to be a private class as no one else was signed up those days) and her asst. spoke very good English and the classes were great.

Personally, when I look at the price they are asking for 6 nights with the 5 daily 3 hr classes and a couple of added items, I think $1300 is a LOT of money. Mesones Sancrista gets mixed reviews as a hotel, and there are other solid colonial hotels in Puebla where you could stay and take the classes at mesones Sancrista and save a lot of money, and have a great time.

I really like Hotel Colonial right off the main square, full of colonial charm, and I have stayed there a half dozen times. It is about $55 a night for a nice room there, you can even get a little balcony of a loft room for that amt. So for $350 you could stay there for 6 nights and take 5 cooking classes at Mesones ( they offer cooking classes by themselves, from one to as many days as you want). The breakfast offered- well you can get great breakfast in lots of places in Puebla! including the nice restaurant at hotel Colonial. And you can always go to dinner at Mesones if you want to. So many great places to wander and eat in Puebla.

I sincerely hope you are going at a time of year when you can get good Chiles en Nogada. Oh my, don't even get me started. That dish, when done properly, is enough to make me weep.

P.S. Do not miss Cholula on a market day-if you like food and cooking, this will impress you, I have never seen so many different kinds of beans and herbs anywhere, and I have been to markets all over MX, including Oaxaca, another culinary destination.

And go eat in Chilipo, and italian settlement 20 min. Outside of Puebla. Best northern Italian food outside of Italy. Totally unexpected. I made friends with a cab driver who took me there. Blew my mind.

Haven't taken the cooking classes, but tend to agree with emd3 as far as staying at Mesones Sacrista. Hotel Colonial is only a short walk to Mesones. And while I've not stayed at Mesones, the rooms surround the open courtyard that serves as the restaurant and I would imagine they would tend to be noisy. But the food is very good. So I would imagine the classes would be OK. In fact, our routine when we go to Puebla is stay at the Colonial, and dinner a Mesones Sacrista.
