Maroma

Just about to book honeymoon at Maroma for next May and read ther reviews on trip advisor–not good. I understand that people with bad experiences are more apt to review the property, but that soedn't explain why everyone raves over Ikal and slams Maroma. Ugh! Does anyone here have first hand experience of the resort?

Thanks much,
ER

I was one of the recent reviewers on there, mine did not slam it like the others, but surely for the money there are better places to stay. I got my deal from Luxury Link and had I paid double the price to go there for my honeymoon- I would have slammed it. It was quaint and pretty but I most likely will not go back again due to some of the negatives I wrote about.
By the way, I would have written a review whether it was ++ or negative, after using the board so much to make decisions I realize its a wonderful resource for others. If you have specific questions, let me know and I will try to reply.

My husband and I just return from Mexico yesterday, I stayed at Ikal Del Mar - Parios de la Bonita - Maroma - toured and had lunch Ceiba Del Mar.

Favorite in this order-

Ikal del Mar- No 1!! great rooms - beautiful terrace area every ste having it's own pool, had breakfast outside every morning, very private, yet property offers free shuttle into town of PDC. Didn't use it had our own rental car, if you just want to have something else to do, go eat at John Grays- he has two restaurants now, one in PDC and in Puerto Morelos. Great FOOD! Food is good at IKAL, too!

Parioso De la Bonita -property is just as pretty Ikal, Room was just as wonderful as we had a great suite - huge terrace with its own plunge pool, huge bathrooms, they offer great gifts - everyone receives a great local made tote bag. At the other properties I carried it and people would ask me where I purchased it. - This would be my number one place except for the beach has lots of seaweed. Even though they rake it several times a day. Spa is WOW and food is great!

Ceiba Del Mar - to me for some reason- it reminds me of Maroma - same color scheme- same fabrics -Big rooms - netting over bed - same furniture - really great beach - good food. I didn't stay here just toured a couple of the rooms. If I were to stay would take a master suite - they are right on the beach and the one I toured had two bath rooms and not much different in price to the Premium rooms at Maroma.

Maroma - I wasn't as impressed with as I thought I would be. Maybe because we had stayed at some great places earlier. Yes, It does have a great beach - food is good. It needs to be updated. We had a premium room and the room was good size, but the bathroom was small and the grout in the tub was gross. There amenities need to be replaced. I used my Bvlgari from the La Bonita.

My husband had a hard time not having a TV or mini bar in room. You can rent a TV for 30 dollars a day. But the hotel was sold out and there was none left. We were first on the list but we only stayed here two nights. The other hotels we stay at had two TV's per room. Our room was on the far side of the hotel with private home in between the mail part of the hotel. I like it as it made it feel romantic, but if you wanted to see current events on TV or check your emails, you had to take a 3 minutes walk on beach or take the back way 5 - 7 minute walk to the tv room.
It's still a very romantic place, just need to add a mini-bar and at least one tv and change the amenities. It just wasn't my favorite.

Maybe I'm just to picky! Hope this help you.

Great post with good info. These were/are all places we are considering for our honeymoon. We have chosen Ikal for the first part, and then will be going to an all-inclusive for the second part, but I've heard Ceiba Del Mar has an AI program now, so maybe that. Can you give me an idea how much you spent at Ikal per day? I've heard it is expensive, but I'd like to have a better idea than that. Also, from what you saw, do you think Ceiba Del Mar would be a good second place to go? (we are also thinking about Royal Hideaway, or possibly a Casita Suite at the El Dorado Royale). Thanks!

frankie,
I personally really love the hotel but
unfortunately they do have a few challenges with their beach and water
accessibility. The beach is very small and it is "rocky" getting into
the ocean. You have to walk a bit in order to get into the ocean, right
in front of the hotel it is not possible.

Haven't been to Ikal but just returned from Maroma.
We thought the food was outstanding. They are extraordinarily flexible with your likes/dislikes on the menu and will gladly prepare just about anything you please.
The atmosphere is very lush and meticulously maintained down to the last leaf on the ground. The beach was really wonderful, but, frankly I expected slightly more.
Our premium room was very cozy with a large bath, great secluded view and a wonderful veranda-type porch with hammock. The room was clean and furnished with nice touches such as aroma therapy oils and bath spices.
But without question, we were most impressed with the service, which we found to be exceptional and very friendly without being the least bit obtrusive.
Needless to say we were not disappointed. We were even a little star struck by a certain A-List celebrity staying there that week!
I would caution that it appears that, while Maroma is still a VERY quiet and private resort, it is catching on. Daimler-Chrysler was there with a fairly large business function, for example, and more rooms are in construction.
Hope this helps!

We just got back from our honeymoon at Maroma. I can't understand how anyone wouldn't love this place - I guess everyone looks for something different.

We had a premium ocean front room, which was spectacular. Terrace with hammock overlooking the gorgeous beach and the ocean, bathtub big enough for 5 people. The beach was beautiful, clean, baby powder sand, and private - the most beautiful beach I've ever seen. Turquoise and calm water just made for swimming. The grounds are just beautiful and romantic, particularly at night when the candles and torches are lit everywhere.

I have never felt so pampered - the staff could not do enough for you. By the third day, they knew what kind of juice we liked with our breakfast and how I took my coffee. Sorbet is brought to you on the beach at 11:00, fresh fruit at 11:45. Always with a smile.

I was almost in tears when I had to leave Maroma.

Wherever you decide to go, enjoy!
