La Pecora Nera

I was wondering if anyone that has eaten at La Pecora Nera in Playa Cocles could tell me a little about the atmosphere. I plan on holding my wedding dinner there in May and would love to hear any little detail about the restaurants "feel". Does it feel intimate? Is it dimly lit? Is it private? I have heard great things about the owner/Chef and his food, I am confident in that, just wondering what the vibe of the place was like. Thanks in advance for any imput.
Cheers!

I ate at the Pecora Nera two years ago in October. The food was great - a trifle expensive by Costa Rica standards, but worth it. The owner is a very personable man from Italy (forgive me, but I can't recall where in Italy.) The night we were there (it was in the middle of the week), there were only about 4-5 other tables occupied. I don't know if it was a slow night, slow time of year, or if it's always like that. My recollection is that it was private in the sense that it was off the road and somewhat isolated.

I remember this question coming up once before. I think this sounds like one of the best ideas I've ever heard. (If I were getting married, I'd hold my reception there.)

The place is set back about 50 meters from the road in a wooded area, so you don't hear any of the traffic noise. The owner, Ilario Giannoni, is from Tuscany, and that's where most of the dishes come from. The menu always looks pretty sparse, but there are always many other things to order, and Ilario comes out and triumphantly announces what else there is that day. The restuarant is his baby and he is very proud of it. He will fuss over you with a lot of attention, but would also not if the guests don't want that. He makes it a fun place.

As for privacy, I suppose you could get all the privacy you want if the number of people attending your recpetion were large enough. A business owner could just close the place that night for a private function. You'd have to ask him. But the place is large enough that you could separate your group off from other diners. There are no separate rooms, because the place is open, with only wood floors and a thatch-roof covering. It's rustic, but in a hip, trendy way.

La Pecora Nera has got to be one of the best restaurants in Costa Rica. We were there last October and again in July. We always found it to be quiet and subdued, the owner very personable and eager to please. Yes, dimly lit--nice atmosphere. I've eaten there for lunch as well. It's a nice place--good choice!

Thank you all so much!! Your responses have given me the insight I was looking for. I never doubted the choice to hold our dinner there but it sure is nice to hear the great things you all have to say about La Pecora Nera. We can't wait to experience it!
Thanks a million!
