Has anyone been to both of these areas to compare? With research it appears there may be more wildlife in Iquitos, but I don't know. Puerto Maldonado would be easier to get to, but if there is a big difference, I wouldn't mind going to Iquitos.

I am looking at Corto Maltes Amazonia for lodge in P.Maldonada, and in Iquitos, I really don't know.
We will be there first week of July.
Suggestions? Opinions?

We looked into both and chose Puerto Maldonado basically because we were going to be closer to it and it was easier to get to. Frankly, Iquitos was quite compelling.

What do you mean by "compelling"? We are going to Iquitos, actually Ceiba Tops, in August and was wondering about your experience in Iquitos.

hello. I have been to both cities. Lived in Iquitos for 3 yrs and visited Pto. Maldonado many times. Rhey're both in the rainforest so you will be get the same 'amazon' feeling. There is no big difference

If you're visiting Cuzco/Puno region, it's more convenient to go to Puerto Maldonado. I stayed at the Inkaterra Reserva Amazonica and I highly recommend it

hello! i'm asking the same question about manu versus iquitos. is there really no difference? everything i've googled about the two has had me cross-eyed and telling me that manu has more fauna and that iquitos is scant.

i originally had my mind set on doing one of the explorama trips in the northern amazon with hopes of seeing at least several mammals and maybe trying my hand at pirahna fishing. but if it's a bust, would it be better to shell out the dough for one of the manu trips? secondly will manu be flooded with similar tourists?
