Bus from Ixtapa/Zihua to Acapulco
Can anyone tell me about the bus ride from Ixtapa to Acapulco? How long is the ride? How much does it cost? Do the buses run on Sundays? Am flying into Ixtapa on a Friday and will spend 2 nights in Ixtapa. Then go to Acapulco for 7 nights, returning to Zihua on the following Sunday for 5 more nights.

Busses in Mexico run 24/7 you are never more than a few hours departure time for a bus.
Take a cab from Ixtapa to the terminal in Zihuatanejo and look for the first class line that's leaving soonest-the earlier in the day the better.
About 6 hours maybe less.
All the major Mexican bus lines have web sites-how's your Spanish?

Hola SeattleLite,
If you go to my website and use the site search box to search for "acapulco bus" you'll find dozens of detailed reports by people who have made this journey, including myself. Lots of good info there!
www.zihuatanejo.net
The bus ride on the luxury class buses of either Estrella Blanca or Estrella de Oro takes about 4 hours. The sun is strong on the side of the bus facing the coast, though there are curtains, so you'll want to take that into account. You also want to try to sit either mid-bus or forward (best seat numbers are in the teens and low 20's). The farther back in the bus the more you bounce around. The buses are very comfortable, though often the A/C is too cold, but the seats and the ride are usually great. If you're not too busy staring out the window at the lovely and not-so-lovely scenery, you'll find it easy to take a nap.
Buses run several times every day both ways. The two buslines are not in the same building in either Acapulco or Zihuatanejo, though in Zihuatanejo they are only a couple of blocks from each other. In Acapulco it's a bit more complicated, but nothing a taxi driver can't fix for you. ;~)
The last time I made the trip I think I paid about $135 pesos each way. Very reasonable. BE SURE you use the luxury class buses with bathrooms on board. Better to have'em and not need'em than need'em and not have'em!
Enjoy the bus ride, enjoy Acapulco, and I KNOW you're going to love Zihuatanejo-Ixtapa! =)
