Oaxaca to Mitla
I'll be going to Oaxaca at the end of February and I was interested in opinions on the easiest wat to get from Oaxaca to Mitla. Arrange transportation - a taxi? at the hotel? Take a city bus? Rent a car and drive? What are the advantages and disadvantages of each method?
Thanks in advance!

I personally like to take the bus. With the highway to Mitla completed it is failry quick. Including wiating or changing buses at Tlatcolula maybe 45 minutes or an hour total. Advantage, cheap and interesting in a cultural sense. Disaadvantage, it took me a while to figure out buses in the Oaxaca valley. Best way to do this is to wait on the periferrico or by the baseball stadium and take a bus bound to Tlatcolula or Mitla. Just flag down the bus, and get a seat, they will collect the fair later. A taxi, fast but expensive. Car rental- freedom, but really expensive. Also the secutity of the vehicle and its contents will be a big issue every time you leave it. Not worth it in my opinion. Another option- collectivo taxi departing from near the second class bus terminal. Find the stand marked Mitla. Cram in with a bunch of folks and get there quickly.

Its on the southeast corner of town at the intersection of the periferrico and the pan am highway. City buses maked "VW" going up Crespo will get you within a couple of blocks of there. Also, anywhere on the perriferico west of the Zocalo you can look for a bus marked with your destination and flag it down. A good map of the city will help you with this a lot. It took a few trips with no previous information to figure this out.
