Agua Calientes Luggage Storage
I am going to Peru in September, 2003. I will be spending three days in Cusco and then taking the train to go on a 2-Day Inca Trail Trek with SAS. Here is my question. Since I will be taking my luggage with me on the train, how can I get someone to take my luggage on to the Hotel I am staying at in Agua Calientes for two days after my trek? SAS does not provide this service. Any ideas? I'm sure lots of folks stay on a couple more days in Agua Calientes after a trek, so this must come up alot.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Punani,
I'm beginning to believe that I need to do what you suggest. I'll just get a bigger day pack and put some extra clothes in there. I have heard there are laundry facilities in Agua Calientes anyway. Thanks for the advice!

There is not a lot on in Agua Calientes. You certainly do not need much in the ways of clothes and do not need to dress up when you are there. You can probably buy a lot of clothes (ie, t-shirts etc) up there.
There is a hotel actually up at Machu Pichu (it is more than double the price of a hotel in Agua Calientes) and as this is quite a nice place they may be able to arrange transporting gear from Cuzco up to Machu Pichu. However, I think most hotels in Agua will not really offer this service. You should be able to leave some gear with your hotel in Cuzco so you will not need to rent the room whilst heading up the Inca trail. You might want to pop into a bookshop and read the Cuzco chapter of a Lonely Planet or possibly a Footprint or Rough Guide book as this may help you. I would have thought that the train does offer a luggage only service but it may be something you can only really sort out once there and probably only if you speak Spanish or stay in a hotel where they wll help you out.

Punani,
Thank you again. We will definitely be leaving luggage in Cusco. We joined the South American Explorers and they will store our luggage for us at their clubhouse in Cusco. We'll just have to learn to carry a little bit more on our backs!!

Most hotels in Agua Caliente have luggage storage. AC is such a small village, you would easily be able to take your luggage to your hotel for storage before starting your trek. AC is only about a ten block village.
