Zurich Hotel for One Night

We will be staying in Zurich for one night after our visit to the Lucerne area.
Any recommendations for a good hotel in an interesting area (old town or other)?
We do not want to stay at an airport hotel. We have an afternoon flight the next day.
Thanks for any suggestions.

I am sure somebody will ask if you have budget constraints since the hotel prices vary as do the amenities.

We have stayed in Zurich several times but for our next trip which will involve an early-morning departure by rail we decided to use the Schweitzerhof which is directly across the street from the train station. It is an easy walk/tram ride to other points.

You might want to look at Booking.com and check locations on the map.

I am sorry I am not being more specific. I am one of the few people here who apparently has actually enjoyed stays in Zurich and the various activities and attractions the city offers.

I hope you are successful in finding the right hotel. I am sure others will be helpful.

Why stay in Zurich at all? Lucerne has a direct rail link to the Zurich airport. It leaves every 30 minutes and takes about an hour. Just stay in Lucerne your last night - unless you have specific things to see or do in Zurich.

We're finishing a trip in September with 2 nights in Zurich (after several days in both Lucerne and Lake Como) and I researched a number of Zurich hotels. While my first choice was The Storchen (approximately $700/night), I chose The Ambassador a L'Opera (approximately $400/night). It's a 4* hotel with relatively moderate prices, for Zurich. According to reviews, it's in a nice neighborhood, very close to the lake and short walk to Old Town.

Agree there is no need to go to Zurich. Lucerne has very frequent trains to the station under the Zurich airport that take about an hour.

I would stay in Luzern and take the train directly from the city to Flughafen Zürich for your flight.

Train schedules:

However, I can still recommend Pension St. Josef in Zürich as an affordable hotel within walking distance of the hauptbanhhof.

If you wanted POSH, you would book the Baur au Lac. Snooty beyond snooty.

The Storchen Zürich is in an excellent location right on the Limmat. You are just steps away from the Fraumünster and the Grossmünster.

The prices in the shops on the Bahnhofstrasse will give you the shivers!

I like to sit on the bench in front of Cartier and eat my chocolates from Teuscher!

Thanks for the information.

Thin, is the hotel you mentioned also known as Hotel St. Josef? I looked at it this morning before posting my question.

Hi Marianna, we stayed at Hotel Helmhaus a few years back. A great little boutique hotel, central position, great beds! It looks a bit more expensive now, but that could be because our Canadian dollar is so low right now.
If you want to read a very short trip report from someone who enjoyed Zurich, put
Zurich who goes there?
in the search box above. I closed that account, but the TR still shows up.

Sundriedtopepo, that was a great trip report and I enjoyed reading what you wrote as well.

We are staying in Weggis for a week and may visit Zurich while there, along with other places, but we thought we would enjoy one evening in Zurich.

Thanks for responding and giving me the link to find the trip report!

I'm another fan of Zurich -- I think it seriously underrated. And I, too, found the Hotel St. Josef suitable for my needs.
