Where to stay in Tuscany with a 5 year old
We are headed to Tuscany in May, and are looking for a quieter city to stay in with a 5 year old. I'd love to take a cooking class if possible, and my husband is a photographer. Where would you recommend we stay? I'd like to stay at least 5 days.

If you want a small city rather than a hill town in the countryside, I would recommend Arezzo or Lucca. I personally find Arezzo more interesting and colorful, but Lucca is a big hit with a lot of families. You should be able to find a cooking class in either city.

To really appreciate Tuscany a car is preferable to public transport. It also means that you have greater flexibility on where you stay and where you can visit.
After many years I recently returned to Fattoria Pagnana - http://www.fattoriapagnana.it/en/home/ which is very suitable for families with young children. The Borgo complex is particularly adapt being fenced all around with a large swimming pool, plenty of garden space and a kids area with swings, frames etc.
I was told that they have completely refurbished the apartments this year and I saw a lot of improvements since I last stayed.
Although they do not run a cookery course there is a huge choice around Florence.
By the way another great plus is that Fattoria Pagnana is only about 10 minutes away from the famous factory outlets including the Mall, Fashion Grove etc

You might think about an agriturismo with a pool.
My five year old granddaughter has an attention span of about 20 minutes, so having a pool, probably animals, and plenty of room to run would be good.
With a car, relatively easy in Tuscany, especially early in the season, you will be able to visit pretty widely and get back to a familiar location at night.
