I use to stay at an apartment ("Da la Posta" there, but minimum stay is a week as far as I know.
In case you are travelling by car you should consider Hotel (Landgasthof) Bellavista in Silvaplana-Surlej. I like their location, quiet with excellent views (ask for the rooms to the south with view) of Lake Silvaplana and the mountains. Very good food as well.
If you are travelling by public transportation you should avoid Silvaplana-Surlej because the bus service to/from there stops early in the evening. Then you better stay in Silvaplana itself. The four star Hotel Albana has a good reputation, excellent food, the ambience is modern, not rustic-alpine style.
For local flair with wood-panelled walls and ceilings in a historical house check the three star hotel La Staila. Cosy, central location, good food (loved their Pizzocheri).
Why don't you consider Sils? It is only 3 miles or so away and more charming IMO. And the hotels there are better (although probably more expensive).

Hi again Corgwyn,
While idly surfing around the Engadin tourism site (www.engadin.ch), I found an absolutely charming four-star hotel in Sils -- the Margna (www.margna.ch). Maybe it'll fit your needs. Don't know if it'll have lake views though.

I'll put in another vote for the Hotel Albana in Silvaplana. Stayed there a couple of years ago, and have no complaints. Room was good, service was good, and dinner in the hotel restaurant was exceptional. Also, they have their own parking garage in the basement in case you are driving. Good luck.

Sorry to keep hogging the forum, but Sils really does look like the place to go. Looking for a nice affordable place for three adults there. Budget wise, a three * or pension might do the trick. Does anyone have suggestions? Thank all who have responded.

I fully agree - Sils is the place to go!
Although I have only stayed in the five-star Waldhaus in Sils (a one-time splurge ) I heard good things about these two three-star hotels:
Chesa Randolina (some rooms have view of the lake!) and Pensium Privata (which is located right at the charming small main square). The latter is definitely family running, charming, more centrally located - the rooms to the main square offer mountain views, but the views from the Chesa Randolina are definitely better.
Let me know if I can help further.

Aplolgies to Corgwyn as I highjack this thread --
Ingo, I'm very intrigued by that Hotel Margna I found. If I decided NOT to splurge on the Waldhaus on a future trip to Sils, what do you think I'd find at the Margna? Views? Do you have any impressions of it?
Hope you, your family, & your computer (!) are well!

Not to worry about hijacking! Sils it is. Now, has anyone stayed at the Hotel Cristallina, a small pension which arrears to be right on the lake? Still haven't decided where to stay yet.
