Where to Honeymoon with Arthritis

Hi Helpful Travelers,

My hubby is afflicted with arthritis. He is from the Orkney Islands in Scotland and has never experienced true warmth. However, I don't want to bake him.

Any ideas for a moderate, mild, good swimming type of place for two oldsters on their honeymoon? We are in our 40's. I have thought of Greece and Sicily - we both prefer Island communities. Any specific ideas?

Thanks,
Buzzee

Buzzee, I would hate to think of 40's being oldsters. Try the Canaries or the south of France or Sorrento.

A friend of mine just returned from the Canary Islands last week and had an awesome time! Still nice and warm there.

Madeira
I love it...
And I have a lot of mobility problems which may or may not be arthritis (am currently being tested by the rheumatology department) and I find it a pleasant holiday.
We are both 31 and we enjoy the beauty, low key attractions, excellent restaurants and friendly people.
Whilst attractions are low key they are plentiful and beautiful - the colourful workers market is one of my favourites, and the new-ish cable car trip above Funchal harbour too.
If this appeals search here for posts I and others have made before about Madeira/ Funchal.
Kavey

If you choose Sicily, I'd suggest Taormina which is lovely!
Sicily can be pretty hot in July/August, though, as can Greece.

If you just want a beach holiday, there are some lovely places in Sardinia ...

Steve

Hi Buzzee

A time of year would be affect your choice, as some mediterranean and Aegean islands get extremely hot in high season. Can you tell us what month you plan to travel?
