Honeymoon in Florida Keys
My Fiancee and I will be married on New Years Eve and will be going on our honeymoon right after (probably the next day). We were thinking about the Florida Keys. Where would be a good place for a honeymoon in the keys? Thanks!

We just got back from Key West and stayed at the Westin. We were able to go over to Sunset Key. Sunset Key is beautiful. The beach is very nice, the pool looks nice and restaurant on the beach was very good. Sunset Key would give you seclusion, but you would also be able to go into Key West for dinner and nightlife.

I've been to Key West on New Year's Eve...and it's not the most romantic setting! I love Key West (when it's a bit quieter) but on New Year's, it was MOBBED and overrun with college guys & girls. I'd stay along the Keys somewhere on New Year's and would visit KW either before or after that night! I love the Curry Mansion..but if it were my honeymoon, I'd try to stay on Sunset Key!!

Thanks for all the ideas, we live in Oregon and wouldn't be arriving until the first/second of January. I haven't heard of Sunset Key or Little Palm Island before today. Where are these in relation to Key West?

Little Palm is about 28 miles North if I remember. Awesome place though. Kind of expensive, but a one of a kind experience. Might want to spend a few days here then stay in Key West for a few days.

Key West does get insanely crowded starting just after Christmas leading up to a drunken crescendo in New Years Eve; but this year NYE is on a Monday night, which means most party animals will come down the weekend before NYE through New Year's day. I would bet many/most of that crowd will be gone by the time the OP gets there. Which is not to suggest that it won't be crowded; it just won't be anywhere near the crazyness of NYE.

Do some research on Little Palm. It is very, very nice, but also very, very cut off. It's the complete opposite of Key West (on New Year's, or any other day for that matter). It's a private island and the only people who are on the island are you, the other guests and the hotel employees. You have to take the hotel's boat back and forth. So, it may be a little too quiet. But for a honeymoon, I guess that's the key (no pun intended.)
The Gradens gets my vote for best hotel in Key West.

I'm not sure what islands we are looking at. We liked the idea of the keys because neither of us have been there. My main requirement is that I want it to be warm, since we will be leaving the snow and the cold. Is there a specific area that would be best?

The keys are indeed your best bet for warm weather in the United States, but it's not guaranteed. We were in Key West a few years ago over New Year's Eve and when we left it was 55 degrees and raining! That's very unusual, though.
Little Palm Island is indeed VERY expensive - around $1,000 a day, so you'd need a big budget to stay there.
If you'd prefer Key West - and I'd encourage you to stay there - I second the Gardens Hotel. It's getting fabulous reviews, is in a charming setting, and as I recall small children are not allowed.
The Cottages on Sunset Key are only an 8 minute ferry ride from Key West, but you DO have to rely on the ferry, so there'd be no quick restaurant trips, then back to the room, then back for touring, etc. In addition I don't think they run later than 11 p.m., though I'm not positive about that.
I do know, though, that visitors at the Sunset Key Cottages are not allowed on the remainder of the island where the residential area is, so somehow it just doesn't seem that inviting to me.
