Where to go in Scotland besides Edinburgh?
Hi!
In August I am going to Scotland for about a week. I am spending time primarily in Edinburgh then heading to Glasgow. I have a night in between the two cities--any suggestions? I'm looking for pretty scenery and nice people. Other than that, no huge requirements. Any help would be great! Thanks!

Carol,
Galloway and Dumfrieshire is the unknown corner of Scotland. We love to visit Kirkcudbright (an artist community) with the best pub in the world, like books? check out Wigtown, and the Logan RB Garden near Port Logan is simply breathtaking.... The southwest has alot to offer, and fewer tourists to run into! Wherever you are in Scotland you'll have a grand time. Enjoy!

Carol: Galloway and the SW are very nice - BUT not very practical for a one night visit between Edinburgh and Glasgow.

There are many great places but for convenience and great things to see I would recommend somewhere in the Trossachs - maybe near Callander. It is within an easy drive of Edinburgh and very close to Glasgow - but totally out in the country.

Enroute you could visit Stirling Castle. then near Callander you could: take a boat out to Inchmahome Priory (totally gloroius place - great for a picnic) in the Lake of Menteith, or a steamer on Loch Katrine, drive through Queen Elizabeth Forest Park for gorgeous scenery, Killen for the Falls of Dochart, several nice villages.

As an alternative, cross the Forth, go up to Dollar and visit Castle Campbell, back over to Stirling, then north to Gleneagles where you turn south to Glendevon and stay at the Tormaukin. It's an easy run back down to Glasgow along the motorway the next day

Sheila's suggestion is good too. The main similarity is that both ideas stay in the central area generally convenient from Edinburgh and to Glasgow.

To best use of your time is to not stray too far afield and spend hours just driving to your destination.
