What is the best hotel to stay in on IL St. Louis Island in Paris?
Does anyone have a suggestion? We really want to stay on this island. Which is a good hotel?
Thanks in advance for your responses.

I don't know what your criteria are, but here goes. We have stayed at the Hotel Louis en l'Ile two or three times and Les Deux Iles once. The Hotel Louis is, or used to be, the least expensive. The rooms are small, as they are at the Deux Iles, but they are comfortable and the staff is friendly, and we liked it. We preferred it to the Deux Iles. People were there who stay there every time they come to Paris.
I think the Jeu de Paume is the most expensive of the four hotels.

We stayed at Hotel Lutece last time in Paris which was 2 yrs ago.
The Lutece and the Deux Iles have the same owners and are only a few doors apart. I can't comment on the rooms at the Deux Iles but the Lutece was quite nice. The rooms are on the small side but nicely done and the bathrooms are large and updated with good showers. There is a small breakfast room which serves a typical continental breakfast which is good but on the expensive side.
We love this location and for our stay this coming September we have rented an apartment on the Isle.
Hope you have a wonderful trip.

Penelope:
We have stayed three times at The Hotel deLutece..our daughter has stayed at Deux Iles..very similar...great location, between the "banks"...inviting lobby with fireplace...many small cafes on the street...and Berthillons near by!! There was an excellent restaurant on the street ("Au Gourmet en Ile"..name was changed a few years ago). Again, depends on what your specs are...the Jeu de Paume is elegant and is reportedly now over €300...Lutece is a good value at just about €200.

The "IL" St. Louis is actually called "East St. Louis". There is no island there, just a bunch of slums, corrupt politicians and abandoned buildings. I would not recommend staying anywhere near there. Not sure what this has to do with Paris...

Penelope, the rest of us know you are referring to Ile Saint-Louis in Paris...
We stayed at the Jeu de Paume several years ago. We liked it a lot but if it's over 300 euros now, we'd go somewhere else. We looked at the Lutece while we were there on a more recent trip. It looked nice, and we decided that's probably where we would stay next time. We both really liked staying on the island.

We stayed in the "penthouse" at the Hotel St-Louis in 2001. Good views of river, rooftops. Friendly staff. Jeu de Paume is the only 4* of the four hotels on the island. Other three are 3* properties.
If you rise early you may experience Notre Dame and the islands alone. Quiet. Magical.

I stayed at the Deux Iles and thought it was very decent although the room I had was tiny.
My friends, at the same time, were at their sister hotel, the Lutece, which was a bit nicer. They had a room on the top floor which was a good size, with nice rooftop views. I would try to get one of those if I return.

a note re: The Lutece...the last time we had booked the Lutece, we arrived dog-tired after a TGV from Biarritz..only to be told that they had a zealous ex-clerk who overbooked and our room would not be avaailble until the next day. The manager ordered us a taxi, he pre-paid the driver, and asked him to take us to the Galileo near the Champs. It was quite nice for the one night. Next morning we were told by their desk people that our stay had been paid for by The Lutece..and another taxi was summoned after breakfast to take us back to the Lutece...also pre-paid. The Lutece manager also gave us a certificate for dinner at the Brasserie next to the little footbridge. Now, that's good business on his part.
