Venice - Hotel Cipriani or Harry's Dolci?
Ok....if you had a choice between the two and you didn't really care about price, which would it be?

BTW - This is to celebrate a ten year wedding anniversary after a vow renewal, so we really want it to be speical, but not too terribly precocious. And, we are looking for both wonderful food and atmosphere, as well as a gorgeous view with an outdoor setting.

All advice greatly appreciated. (My gosh, does that sound like a "want ad" or what?)
I've never eaten at the Cipriani but have eaten 2 or 3 times at Harry's Dolci. If you have a warm, sunny day and can eat at their outside tables with the waters of the canal/lagoon? lapping at your feet, it's pretty special. I wouldn't go there if I had to sit inside.

Thanks for the replies. I think that we are kind of leaning towards Cipriani after looking at pics of both places. Harry's seems a bit crowded to me.

Anyone else have any info or experience with these places? We are also open to other suggestions, either on the Grand Canal or another small, quiet canal.

Thanks.
I've had dinner at the Cipriani twice.
It is a very special experience, but no view from inside. There is a more casual restaurant, Cip's, that has an outdoor terrace--might be good for a lunch.
I don't know how crowded Harry's Dolci gets; Harry's Bar near San Marco is both crowded and a tourist trap imo.

However, if' you're willing to consider lunch with a view, and if the weather is fine, here's my suggestion: Locanda Cipriani, on the island of Torcello.
Torcello is a wonderful place to go anyway, just for its cathedral and mosaics, but on the walk to the cathedral from the vaporetto landing (there's only one path, you can't get lost) is Locanda Cipriani. You would have a view of the back of the cathedral and of a flower-filled garden.
Setting is slightly rustic, but people dress up for lunch there.
Thanks for the advice, Elaine. However, we are planning our vow renewal dinner for after the ceremony, which will be around sunset in the summer (therefore, around 9 p.m.)

We are thinking of doing The Terrace Restaurant if we do Cipriani since we want to be outside for dinner. Our wedding consultant is making all the arrangements and can guarantee us a canal-side table wherever we decide, but we just need to decide.

Have you ever eaten at The Terrace Restaurant at Cipriani (I understand from their website that it's different from Cips) in the evening, Elaine?

Thanks.
Hi
I've eaten in the main dining room, don't know its name, but although beautiful, it was definitely indoors, and it was not winter when I ate there.
Perhaps the Terrace is yet another dining room, though I'm sure the kitchen is the same and the food will be equally good.

Go to Torcello anyway if you can, it's a very romantic place.
