Transportation How To - central Amsterdam to Amstelveen

DH has two days of meetings in Amstelveen (Hewlett-Packard office - just east of Schiphol) in a few weeks. He was hoping to stay in central Amsterdam, having not seen it before, and commute to/from Amstelveen.
Is there any way to estimate cab fare and the length of the commute? Or would there be a direct way of taking public transportation? He hasn't been to this particular HP office before, but they are generally out in the suburbs and taking public transportation isn't quite straightforward.
Many Thanks!
Jill

HP is about a 15 minute walk to the nearest Metro stop.

Try google maps and rome2rio.com, and then confirm with follow-up internet searches.

Thank you! He has to be there pretty early in the morning and we will be pretty jet lagged, so I'm wondering if a taxi might make the most sense. Not the most economical, but might be the fastest and least brain-taxing the morning after an overnight flight.

For taxi, it is about the same distance as to the airport.

The closest bus stop seems to be:
Amstelveen, Bovenkerkerweg - served by connexxion bus #172, 241, 272

To see the bus route map:
#172 Amsterdam to Amstelveen

to visualize the route, click "Bekijk route op de kaart" on top right.

#241 Amsterdam to Amstelveen

#272 Amsterdam to Amstelveen
-can't find one in this direction-

The next closest stop is the subway stop at "Amstelveen, Spinnerij" served by line 51.

Isn't the company covering "reasonable" commuting cost as a business expense?

9292.nl (also has an app)

no need to look up separate transport companies' timetables.

8 minute walk to the Spinnerij stop, then the #51 tram to Amsterdam centre

and an early commute from amsterdam central

if your husband could have a hotel near the metro 51 line, that would be convenient. In that case a hotel near Rai is convenient, because the trams get you to the centre of Amsterdam within 20 minutes and you shave off about 25 minutes of your morning commute.

And that is about a two minute walk to the Metro. Metro is a no brainer.

Yup. Get on #51 at Nieuwmarkt ride to Spinnerij.

Very, very nice location by the way. Off the tourist trail, like Amsterdam used to be.

Hemelse Modder, on Kromme Waal: nice restaurant!

We used to live on Krom Boomsloot for a while, a temporary address, sadly. Really sad that we had to move out of the neighbourhood.

http://www.cobra-museum.nl/en/home.html

I took the tram to Amstelveen Centrum just to visit the Cobra Museum - a unique art museum.

Amstelveen itself is a new town - practically all brick or paving stones in the town center.

Just confirmed the apartment at Amsterdam at Home! Found the nearest metro station, Nieuwmarkt (thank you for the detailed info!), on the map and will mark out his route.

Thank you again for your helpfulness

basically, Nieuwmarkt is down the street. Lovely walk "home" at the end of the day too!

Once more I point to Cafe Bern on Nieuwmarkt. (need to book, though, always popular with the locals)

Yes, that's the place.

it comes straight from an Amsterdam that allowed you to think: "I'm a nuclear physicist. You know what? My friends and I are going to start a restaurant and we'll do basically 3 dishes, but do them to perfection. All we need to find is a cheap space, a stove and some tables"

It's got a long and revered history and interior, it's been entirely restored and the food is really special.
