We are four adults who will need a taxi from our hotel in Paris back to the CDG airport. Should we have the hotel call us a taxi? Is there an extra charge for calling a taxi? Will the taxi accommodate 4 adults and their luggage? Any idea about the approximate cost of the taxi?

The last time we did this we ordered the taxi in advance through the hotel. be aware that in Paris the meter of the taxi starts running when the taxi begins moving. If the taxi is coming TO your hotel from somewhere else to get you then the meter will be on.

Several years ago now the cost of the taxi out to CDG was about 60 Euro as I recall (perhaps incorrectly). I am absolutely certain you will get other replies with, hopefully, more up-to-date prices.

In terms of taxi size, if you arrange for one in advance then you specify the number of passengers and the amount of luggage and the taxi company will send the appropriately- sized vehicle.

Paris hotels we've stayed in offered to arrange an airport shuttle service. After picking us up, it collected other passengers at various hotels before proceeding to the airport. The per person rate (for the 2 of us) seemed reasonable.

You might want to check with your hotel to see if arrangements can be made to take the 4 of you to the airport and ask about the timing & the cost.

Yes, there is an 'advance fee' when the taxi is called.
usually about 10 e. I would refuse a cab with more on the meter but then you need a back-up.
So if hotel can indicate a taxi station close by, it is better to go there.
If not let the hotel call, it reduces the risk of miscommunication.
I would NEVER take a shuttle in France on the way to the airport. The probability of a shuttle not showing up is just so much higher than a taxi not showing up.
As for sharing a ride with other people, well I prefer to pay more and be on time.
If I want to share a ride, I take a bus or a metro.
Approx cost will be 60-70 € in normal hours.

We took a shuttle that our hotel recommended. It was a mistake.

We were the first ones on, and the last ones off at CDG. It wound through the streets and picked up two more sets of passengers. At the airport, everyone else was dropped off first, as I worried about the time.

It made us very late for check-in. Not fun.

I book a taxi in advance for my return trip to CDG.

I have taken shuttles before to CDG but don't anymore. One time, the shuttle waited about 15 minutes for passengers who were not yet ready. Another time, it didn't pick me up and when I called, the shuttle company said the pickup time had changed. I told them that I didn't get the message and they had another shuttle there in 30 minutes.

You call the day before---they speak English so no confusion there..

They are always 10-15 min. earlier than the stated time of pick up so make sure you are ready.

We received this tip on Fodors several years ago and have never had a mishap.

Have NEVER had this happen. What Dukey said is true--the meter starts from the time the taxi leaves its stand and continues to run if you are not in the lobby to meet it--so be on time.

Split 4 ways, this will be less than any shuttle, without the hassle of going to other hotels, etc.

I'm not sure what Gretchen has never had happen, the advance fee?. I've had taxis show up with about 10 euro on the meter, once I think it was a bit more and I think the guy came from pretty far away, which kind of annoyed me but I didn't know the reasons. I think that is what is being called the advance fee, but in fact, there is a flat fee built into that which most people just aren't aware of, but it's not 10 euro. Currently, there is a 2.60 euro "pick-up fee" or starting fee. The fare from when the meter starts when the taxi sets out to get you is called the "approach fare" by some taxi companies. So those are probably what is being referred to as an advance fee, the approach and pick-up fees.

It was very early in the morning, but it was hard for me to know if that was really necessary. I've had meters run to about 55-60 euro recently, also, from the bottom of the Left Bank, and on a Sunday or before 7 (both have higher rates). If your hotel was on the Right Bank, shouild be a bit less.

There are also some minor charges per piece of luggage put in the boot and for each person beyond 3, at least one euro for each luggage and 3 euro for the excess passengers.

We took a shuttle once back because there were only two of us. It wasn't bad but I HATED stopping for everyone else.

We mostly have had the hotel desk order a taxi for us the night before.

That method always worked until a big rain storm on a Monday in Paris. Luckily, we found out we could walk up the street and take the Air France bus from there (Montparnasse) to CDG.

Still went back to the taxi method the next time.

Daughter while in Paris on semester abroad WOULD do the shuttle to the airport--and that makes sense. NO Air France bus near her; RER links too much a problem; taxi for one expensive.

I also did RER BACK one time. But I was staying one block off the RER B that time.

We have stayed in apt the last two times and although the agency offered, we have never reserved a taxi through them. There is a taxi rank right by our apt, and for two persons, we knew there were no room limitations.

So obviously, having the taxi ordered from the hotel desk the night before for the number of persons works pretty darn well. But no matter what you choose, DO think about contingencies!

The other possible issue which has not been addressed is the <B>time of day</B> the ride is needed. Early in the morning is probably going to pose some possible limitations upon from where one can get a ride. A taxi rank at five in the morning, for example? maybe, and maybe not.

What would be nice now would be for the original poster to tell us whether or not they need any clarifications as to what has been offered.

No one suggests a car service? In October, as before, we used shuttle-inter.com for a pick up in Paris to travel to CDG.

I would not use them for a pick up at the airport, as they aren't great for that, but for a trip from central Paris to CDG, they are reliable and timely. The cars have been waiting when we come outside.

I have the confirmation email, so I know that the price for three of us was 55 euro, payed in cash upon arrival at the airport.

We used G7 last December. It was early - 5 am pickup, I think. They were early. The meter had money on it and there was an extra fee (5€ )because I had booked the day before rather than call the morning OF the taxi ride.
I think there is also a charge for rush hour trip ( or maybe it was early morning.
I downloaded the app and booked via my phone.
