Spain Transportation Continued

I have posted this earlier but did not include travel dates so I include them now.

Four of us are going to Barcelona by air. We then want to go to Valencia and then to Madrid. We don't plan to drive. So, we're thinking about taking trains but not sure how and how much it will cost.

US to Barcelona: 5/28/05
Barcelona to Valencia: 6/1/05
Valencia to Madrid: 6/4/05

I have heard that train has hidden fee (or soemthing called supplement). Can someone explain about it? Should I get the train tickets now or wait until we get to Barcelona?

Is travel by air a practical (economcial) option for my case? Don't know how much is the airfare in traveling to different cities in Spain?

Thanks for any suggestion.

You can look up fares on www.renfe.es. Book tickets when you get to Barcelona.

I think I responded to you in another post, but Spanair has a flight to Madrid for 41 Euros. However, the bus/ train might be a better option. I thought it was like 5+ hours Valencia - Madrid but apparently is less time . Don't know what bus company does that route. The train , Renfe, is www.renfe.es

There is no way you are going to be able to take a train or a bus between some of these cities and be there as fast as you would by flying.

What I, personally, think is needed now that you have posted two messages asking essentially the same thing is for you to take some initiative and go to both the www.iberia.com and www.spanair.com websites and search for possible flights and prices so you can compare these with train and bus fares.

You've been given all the resources you need and on the other post the "supplement" issue was explained to you. Now it is your turn.

These are journeys that take three and a half hours by train, city centre to city centre. Flying will hardly be much quicker when you add travelling times to and from airports, check-in time, etc.
As Intrepid1 says, you have all the information you need.

pcwc66: your questions were answered (mostly) in your earlier thread. To retrieve that thread, click on your own name in a post or at the top of the page near the Fodor's "welcome" in the orange banner.

GeoffHammer's got it right: include an hour pre-flight check-in for flights and the distance you have to travel to get into town, and for trips of less than 200 mi (Valencia-Madrid: 181 mi); ground transportation becomes a competitive option. Renfe takes you to Madrid's Puerta de Atocha; Motorcoach probably to Estacion Sur de Autobus (1-Metro stop from Atocha Renfe). Motorcoach will probably be your least expensive option.

Will you arrive in Barcelona on 28 May or early AM on 29 May? Plan your activities considering that many museums are closed on Mondays: It looks like you're going to be in Barca on a Monday and Madrid the following Monday. Sunday in Barcelona is a good day to visit Parc Guell; Sunday in Madrid Retiro Park can be fun (Mimes, musicians, etc.)
