Sicily to Naples
Pondering which would be EASIER, taking a train from Catania to Naples, taking our own car from Sicily to Naples (via ferry) and how to go about it in October! Would someone please advise and/or let me get the appropriate web sites for the information. Thank you again!

The overnight ferries between Napoli and Catania are run by TTT Lines (www.tttlines.it). The ships have cabins (with shower and toilet), a self-service restaurant and lounge bar. The ships also take passengers without cars.

TDYLS we live in Mineo which is 1 1/2 hrs from Catania, Taormina is about 2 hours away and Palermo 3 1/2 so I was thinking of the first two for transport. We are about 1/2 hour from Caltagirone. Thanks for the info Geoff! I must admit I have never used these services before, usually flying to our destinations or driving around the island with our own car/buses so its a little new to me, but its all about teh experiences, eh?

Huh! Small world! I am in Mineo also and we are going to Naples in October too. I was planning on driving and taking the ferry from Messina (can't take car on hydrofoil) and driving the rest of the way. Train from Catania is about 7 hours and I didn't think driving would be that much longer. I want to go to Ikea so that is the big reason I want to drive. Ferry is a good idea, I think an overnight cabin would be about €60/person. You could take the bus from the stop outside base to the McDonalds right near the port, so you wouldn't have to leave your car at the port. Or if you take the train, the bus from Motta runs very frequently and the final stop is the train station. I just park in the lot across from the bus stop in Motta, near the pink school. We took the hydrofoil to Vulcano this weekend and it was only about a 2 1/2 hr drive from the driveway to parking at the port at Milazzo, so Messina would probably be about 2 hours. We are going to stay in Sorrento and just park the car and use public transport. (except to go to Ikea, lol)
