Shopping at Amsterdam Airport
I have been to Amsterdam Airport several times for changing flights. But never had too much time to browse and shop at the many stores.
Just thought I will ask dear Fodor friends if they have enjoyed some special shops there. If I have enough time, which would be the best store to go to and for the most attractively priced items.
There are so many amazingly experienced travelers here and thus, I am sure there will be something new to learn.
Thanks for your ideas and your help.

Thanks for your reply.
Are the prices pretty attractive on chocolates?</i>
NO. But I buy a couple small boxes with windmills and tulips on the wrapper as gifts for my neighbors for watching my house while I am gone.
Here is the promo page for the "tax-free" shops, https://www.seebuyflyhappyhour.nl/en/merken-winkels/. You can only buy with a boarding pass in hand. Booze may be a problem if you are making a connection. For return to the USA I stuff the bottle in my checked luggage after customs and re-check the luggage. Instructions are posted in US airports. Be careful buying unknown brands and labels from known brands. There is junk for sale.
Among my other "souvenirs" of Holland are a one kg cheese ball and a few dozen herrings. But I buy those in regular markets and pack them in checked luggage. Herring is sold at many vis wagons in Holland. The vendor will vacuum pack it and you can freeze it in your hotel. Too bad you are just changing planes in Amsterdam.

Schiphol doesn't generally have many bargains in my experience. It is fun to go around the shops but bargains are not generally available.
Schiphol is getting increasingly busy and struggling somewhat to cope with the numbers, though there is a new temporary departure lounge opening soon. Allow lots of time for any formalities you have to go through there.
Stroopwafels can be better bought landside in one of the supermarkets, either in the terminal or before you get to the airport, rather than the overpriced ones airside. They will be fresher as well as cheaper.

Hetismij, i saw that on the news yesterday. On some days (ie start of school holidays) Schiphol is becoming unbearably crowded. Someone being interviewed advised 3 hour in advance, on busy days...
Get your stroopwafels fresh on Albert Cuyp markt - yum.

Thanks for sharing the information on the crowded airport, so I will be prepared.
Stroopwafles are really delicious. But if we are just at the airport to change flights, then we have no choice but to buy right there. I will remember to buy at least a couple of small packages.
Have a great Sunday.
