55 Minute Connection in Amsterdam
Continental airfare has dropped and I am thinking about flying CO on my trip to Italy in May. For the return flight the connect time from Rome to Amsterdam is only 55 minutes. Is this enough time to change planes? We would be continuing on CO to Houston, so not changing airlines.
The fare has just dropped to $870 from IAH-Milan, Rome to IAH. Hard to pass up!
Our other option is AF to Venice and from Rome.
Thanks for any input.

Hi Ira,
After checking CO for 2 months, their rates dropped as I was looking the other night. My only concern is the 55 minute connection in Amsterdam. But, it is on the way home and I'm not as worried about the bags making it.
So, you think that is a good fare?

I would go for it. Amsterdam's airport is large but efficient. It is certainly a tight connection, but since you are on your way home I can think of worse things than getting stuck in Amsterdam for the night!

I only worry about connections and baggage outbound. On my way home, who cares?
If the bag doesn't make it the airline can deliver to your home the next day (or at least that's how it worked for me the one and only time my suitcase went missing).

Agreed with Suze. The idea of missing part of my vacation because of a missed flight is horrible, but coming home I could really care less.
I got "stuck" in Brussels overnight on our flight home from Rome in March. It was unexpected, and in many ways a pain, but we still had a great time in a place that neither of us had been to, so it worked out great overall.
On the flipside, I almost got stuck in DC last November because, even with a 3.5 hour connection we managed to miss our flight to Paris. I was nearly in tears. Luckily we got on a flight to London that got us to Paris, albeit about 8 hours later than expected.

Well, I did it! I booked the CO flight. I just couldn't pass it up.
Off to Italy in May! This will be my first trip,so will have lots of research to look forward to. And plenty of questions to ask.
I will be attending the Houston GTG tomorrow- really looking forward to it.

What flights do you get now and on what date?
Currently, CO has a 2nd AMS-IAH 3 days a week. And KLM has its own. Plus, they can also route you FCO-EWR-IAH, etc...
I think you made the right decision by going ahead with it.
