Ship will be in Warnemunde, Germany
Our ship will put into port in Warnemunde from 9 a.m. until 11:00 p.m. What are the best places to visit around there? Any recommendations for tour groups and/or tours - walking, bus, etc. We decided not to take the tour to Berlin but would like to see the port city and surrounding area.
Thank you.
Thank you.

I think the impressive red brick minster of Bad Doberan warrants an excursion and you could combine that with some sightseeing in Rostock.
Alternatively you could try to explore the nearby Darss/Fischland peninsula with pretty landscapes, beautiful beaches and decent villages, such as Ahrenshoop that attracts many artists.

Warnemünde is a small seaside resort. It has a wide sandy beach and a little harbour with lots of boutiques, snack bars etc., many of them on docking ships. Nearby Rostock (accessible by public transport) has a nice Old Town and a maritime museum.
Since you are docking for 14 hours, I would recommend to rent a car for a day. You may drive to Schwerin, which has a spectacular castle, and stop on the way back in Wismar with a beautiful Old Town. Drive along the coast, as hsv has said, Ahrenshoop is a beautiful fishers village which has become an artists' colony.
The price for a day rental should be 80-100€ + gas (~30€) and you can share the car with four people.

We also decided to forego the Berlin trip, instead we took the train from Warnemuende to Luebeck. Was a nice, relaxed day, with plenty of sightseeing in historic Luebeck, some good food and that Marzipan!!!!!
S-Bahn train in W.took off within walking disance of the ship, changed to regular Intercity train in Rostock.
Check www.bahn.de for train schedules and rates.

We also opted to go to Luebeck from Warnemunde last year. Be sure to get to Rostock station before 9am so you can catch the earliest IC train so you will have ample time to go around Luebeck and have a leisurely lunch at the Neideregger cafe fronting the city hall. Very nice food! We also bought some marzipans to take home. We came back around 5pm, went around Warnemunde and had seafood and beer in one of the outdoor restaurants.
