Sardinia-too busy early/mid July??

I am in the beginning stages of considering a Sardinia sailing trip. Primarily to La Maddalena islands and other areas of northeast Sardinia.

I've read on this forum and elsewhere that many believe/the consensus is this area of Sardinia is uncomfortably overcrowded in late July and August. I'm specifically wondering about the first half of July. Are the crowds somewhat less? Does anyone have experience traveling to NE Sardinia during this time? What did you think?

Most visitors come from continental Italy. High season begins mid July, with a absolute peak in the last 3 weeks of August (August 6th - 26th 2017).
