San Regis Paris or Prince De Galles
If price were the same, which of these hotels would you stay at. My husband and I are travelling to Paris for the first time and are trying to decide between these two hotels. If anyone has stayed at either the San Regis, can you suggest any room I should request. We would be getting a classic or superior double at either. Thank you!!

Hopefully you mean teh San Regis on Rue Jean Goujon and not any St REgis of the Starwood chain (I don't think there is one in Paris yet anyway). If the former, I have stayed several times, it is one of my favorite Paris htoels. I have room numbers at home and will re-post on Monday. These are deluxe and junior suites, but the room numbers would give you an idea of location and view.
I have not stayed in a classic double there, and I don't see superior even listed on their websiste, mabye you mean standard room. Those rooms are 22 square meters respectively. These are TINY for 2 people. If you are going to be there for more than 1 night, and if each of you have a suitcase, I think you will find this very uncomfortable. This is a very small room for 2 people. For two people at a minimum you need 28 square meters and even that is a tight fit IMO.

Hi Cicerone-
I was hoping you would respond. It was from your posts I got the idea of the San Regis.
I meant a deluxe and standard, good to know about the size difference. Any pics, or room #'s suggestions would be great. Any restaurant recs? Thank you!

Jennibrk, I am still looking for my room number list. I moved back to Hong Kong from Zurich a few months ago, and my movers lost my tax records and some other stuff, and I now suspect my Paris file was with the lost papers. I will keep checking. For restaurants see below:
PINXO
9, rue d’Alger

Metro: St-Michel, Odeon
Small, innovative restaurant. Great pastas and other dishes. Also recco’d by Patricia Wells
Les Bookinistes Restaurant
53 Quai des Grands Augustins, 75005,

Excellent restaurant on the left bank, offering "nontraditional, highly inventive French Cuisine". Good selection of wines.
Le Vieux Bistro

4e, 4th Arrondissement (Ile De La Cité/Ile St-Louis & Beaubourg)
Traditional french.
La Fontaine de Mars
129 Rue St.Dominique, 7th
Phone: 011 33 1 47 05 46 44
This small restaurant offers delicious bistro cooking and charming, efficient service in an atmosphere that is everything you ever hoped a small Paris restaurant would be (checked-gingham table cloths). At around 22 to 30 euros per person.
La Tour d’Argent
15-17, quai de la Tournelle
Tel : 01 43 54 23 31
http://www.latourdargent.com/uk/indexbis.html
Don’t need to say much about it, excellent food, excellent service, waiter-to-diner ratio is about 4:1. Closed all day Monday and Tuesday for lunch. Bring lots of money. Worth a splurge.
Georges
Centre Pompidou. Sixth Floor.
Metro Rambuteau or Hôtel de Ville
Tel: 01.44.78.47.99
The real star of the restaurant is the impressive wrap-around view of Paris. Menu items are mostly Continental, with hints of Asia. Models and Euro-trash clientle. Some people have complated about indifferent service here. Closed Tuesday.

On Rue St. Louis en Ile on the Ile St. Louis. Basic homemade pastas and good salads, very reasonably priced.

Described to me as "pleasant and reliable but not always memorable". The considerable plus points, however, are a superb view over Paris (from the Tour Eiffel right round to Sacré Coeur), and a large open-air terrace.

JenniBrk, I am sorry but I cannot find my room notes at all (also can't find copies of my tax returns from 1985-1990 which my movers also lost which is more of a concern to me. . .). I looked at the San Regis website and can actually SEE two of the junior suites I have stayed in, but darn it the room numbers are not there. . . the suites are the room done in all blue and the room done in all yellow. Both are a good size, the room done in yellow is a bit larger and has a bit of an Eiffel Tower view. Sorry that this won't really help because I don't have the room numbers.
What you could certainly do is ask to see all the available rooms in the class you have booked (i.e. deluxe or junior suite) the day you check in and pick your favorite. That is what I usually do, its a small hotel and it won't take you more than a few minutes to look at the available rooms.

I stayed at the Prince de Galles last year on points. I thought the euro price they were charging was high for the hotel. Our room was large and had air conditioning. As it was very hot and humid while we were in Paris, that turned out to be important. If price is not an object, try the Four Seasons.
