Royal Palace of Caserta and the Temples of Paestum in the same day?

I'll be staying in Positano and would like to see both of these attractions. As we will not have our own car, I'm trying to figure out if, by using public transportation, it is possible to see these in the same day. I'm not adverse to hiring a driver, but I'd like to explore all options. Or would you recommend we make separate trips for these?

We're also planning on seeing Pompeii, but I'm sure that will take a whole day by itself.
Many thanks!

Caserta took most of the day from Sorrento using public transportation. I think it would take a full day to get to Caserta from Positano by public transit. Once you get to Napoli Centrale, I recommend you stick with the Trenitalia to get to Caserta even though there is a 2 hr gap in service in the morning. The CTP buses connecting the Napoli Centrale to Caserta seems to be a den of pickpockets. I had every euro hidden in my money belt so I lost nothing, but someone emptied other worthless things I kept in my back pocket. On top of the crowd and unsavory characters, the CTP bus stop is on the OTHER side of the Piazza Garibaldi. Piazza Garibaldi is an enormous square with roads crossing the square at many points. By the time I made it to the CTP bus stop, I was getting good at dealing with the Napolitan traffic.

If you must do them in same day, hire a driver. I found that waiting until I got there to make an arrangement was significantly cheaper. If you find a taxi driver you like, ask the driver about going to places. If you have researched the online prices before hand, you can tell if what the driver is proposing is a fair price.

Hi Judy - I believe there is a bus service to Caserta from Sorrento in high season. This may be your easiest solution ...

If you're relying on public transportation, these trips must be separated into two FULL days of travel.

Even if you had the a car, it would be difficult to do both in the same day and do either site justice. It is about an hour and 45minute drive between the places (Paestum up to the autostrada at battipaglia is about 25km of a 50km/h zone)

We easily spent the best part of a day at Caserta, and even then didn't get to see all of the gardens. Paestum + the museum can probably be done in two hours.
