route suggestions on Europe
Hi,
I need help planning out the best route to travel for following destinations. Ireland (dubin), Scotland (Edinburgh), Prauge, Vienna, Budapest, Spain (Barcelone, mardid, Toledo), Portgual (Libon), Morocco, Itlay (Venice, Florence, Tuscany), Copenhagen amd Stockholm. any suggestion is appreciated.
also, Naples and Cinque Terre in Italy, is it recommended to go in late Oct.? is it too close to go there?
thanks in advance for any suggestions.

And are you thinking of driving much of that, or are you looking for train/plane combinations? (OK, obviously you're not driving between Dublin and Scotland or to Morocco -- but the rest?)
I too am curious how many months you have to do this.

hi, i am planning to do this route in 5 weeks or so. looking at leaving on Oct. 13 to Pruge as my first stop. and coming back to NY around Nov. 17 or so.
my planning is Pruage, Vienna and Budpest. from there, is it better to itlay first, then Spain, or should be go to Spain first, then Italy? better with air or by train?
of course, these will be combination of train and flight.

Fly to Prague, visit Prague, Vienna, Budapest by train.
Then, train to Venice, and on to Florence/Tuscany, and then Cinque Terre if you want (forget Naples, its too far away).
Then fly from Florence or Pisa to Barcelona or Madrid: visit Spain and Portugual by train. (And if you really want to get to Morocco, fly from here).
Then fly to Copenhagen or Stockholm. Take a boat to get between them.
From Scandinavia, fly to Edinburgh and see Scotland, then train to Ireland.
This is a crazy trip, which hops all over everywhere, and I wouldn't recommend it. But I think that is the most efficient way to get to where you are going. The flights I've recommended will save you some long (one-two day) train trips.

You have listed 15 different cities - plus CT and Naples/Amalfi - in counries sprad out all over europe. Assuming you have 35 days - that gives you 17 days of travel and 18 days of vacation.
This is close to madness.
(Either by plane or train travel between almost any of these places will take a full day when you include checking out of one hotel, getting to the airport/train station and doing the reverse in the new city. And keep in mind that many of the low cost airlines are located far from the cities they serve - adding extra transport time.)
There is no way you can begin to do this itinerary and actually see anything. Plus your transportation costs will be enormous.
IMHO you need to cut out at least half of these destinations. I would cut Scandinavia in late Oct/Nov and also Ireland and Scotland. Bag Morocco as well.
If you do a little central europe, some Italy and Spain you will still be covering a lot of territory for the amount of time you have.

When I read your first post I figured you were talking about 3 or 4 months to do this itinerary. Even then it would be a trek. But only 5 weeks is simply not long enough to do that much. The places you list are spread over a HUGE area and the most northern ones will be getting into short days and cold weather in November.
W/ 5 weeks think about
- Spain+Portugal+Italy - OR -
- Prauge+Vienna+Budapest+Italy - OR -
- Ireland+Scotland + 1 or 2 other countries.

Your trip as outlined will be hugely expensive and exhausting. With as much time spent going from place to place as you will have to enjoy being in the cities you want to see. I would suggest grouping the places by region (there's ~ 4 or 5 on your list to my eye) them cut out at least 2 of them... i.e., skip Copenhagen, Stockholm, Ireland, Scotland as the furthers north for instance. You'll still have plenty on your plate for a 5 week trip.
