Easy/inexpensive gateways from Spain
Hi - I'm trying to use my United miles to get to Morocco but don't have quite enough for the full flight to Morocco. So, I'm trying to find out if I can use miles to fly to Spain and then purchase an inexpensive ticket to Casablanca or Marrakesh. Can anyone recommend an easy gateway from Spain and a carrier? Many thanks!

Royal Air Maroc and Iberia fly from Spain to Morocco but they are not necessarily that cheap. The REALLY cheap flights are generally from London. Perhaps you can get a cheap flight from Spain to London and then from there to Morocco.

Fly to Madrid and take the train to Casablanca or Marrakesh.Yep, you can do this. Or...
Fly to Gibralter or Cadiz, take a fast ferry to Tangiers and catch one of a couple trains to Casablaca or Marrakesh. Very easy. You can reserve 1st class tickets on the train about a month in advance. There is even a nite train. Lots of ferries. It sounds complicated, but it really isn't.

I've got a website listed as a favourite on my other computer - it lists a whole pile of discount airlines. You enter 2 cities and it lists which airlines fly between them. I'll try to post it tomorrow.
I'malso thinking of doing the same - using points to fly to Barcelona (which I want to visit) and then flying to Morocco.

Go to this webpage www.seat61.com/Morocco.htm
and read the "London to Tangier" section. Further down in a section "Taking the train South from Tangier..."
Just piece it together the way you like. There are lots of options for trains and ferries, where or how to overnite.

MaeT, the website is www.harefares.com - I don't have any personal experience with any of these airlines, but it's worth a look.

There's a lot of inexpensive routes from various points in Europe to several cities in Morocco now. Maybe it wouldn't have to be Spain, which I don't think has as many connections, as say, France.
Have a look at www.whichbudget.com
