Recommendations for places to stay in Portsmouth

We are looking to spend one night in Portsmouth to catch an early Ferry to Cherbourg. We are a family of 4: 3 adults and 1 child.

Premier Inn Southsea has a room with full bed, twin bed and sofabed.

SouthSea Lodge is nice but I'm not sure they have rooms for 4.

Are you travelling with a car, or as foot passengers? If you have a car, you may find it better to stay at a Premier Inn, Travelodge, Holiday Inn Express or similar outside the city. The journey in will take less than 30 minutes. Just put Portsmouth in the search box, and look for hotels within 15 miles or so.

My experience is that hotels convenient for the ferry get booked early, and prices are rarely low.

Hi Jennjo
A couple of years ago we stayed at the Travelodge Portsmouth Hilsea. It was a few minutes drive from the main part of town; had comfortable, clean rooms and the dining area was in the pub attached to the hotel. Food was good family-style fare - I would happily recommend it for you, Di

Thanks All. I'm still trying to determine if we are going to attempt renting a car or try to get by on the rail system.

What's that got to do with your original posting? You cant't drive or get a train across La Merde from Pompey to Cherbourg!
