Portofino->Pompeii->Capri : feedback please
After a planned trip to Portofino, we would like to travel to Capri. I'd love to get your insight on the following please:
-What's the best way to get from Portofino to Capri (fly from Genoa to Naples + boat, train to Naples + boat)?
-We'd like to dedicate at least a day in Pompeii, is there a high-end boutique hotel in the area (to maximize our time there)? We were planning on visiting Pompeii as a stopover on the way in/out of Capri.
-Any recommendations for a small/boutique, high-end hotel on the island of Capri?
Many, many thanks.

The fastest train from Genoa to Naples is seven hours. Flights from Genoa to Naples are 75 minutes plus the time needed to get from the Naples airport to the ferry dock. A quick search shows an AirOne flight at 8:30 a.m. mid-week in June, but the next flight isn't until late afternoon which means you might want to spend the previous night in Genoa and not Portofino. It's about an hour's drive between the cities.
There are reasonably nice hotels in the area around the Pompeii excavation, but I wouldn't describe any of them as "high-end boutique" hotels.
Go to www.tripadvisor.com and search "Pompeii hotels" and "Capri hotels."
