Paris Short-Term Housing
My daughter will be doing a law school internship in Paris from May 12 until June 16 in the 16th and is looking for low-cost short-term housing. She's checking FUSAC and parisattitude websites; other vacation rental website are much more expensive. She's interested in subletting a studio or finding a room to rent in a nice apt, etc. - doesn't need to be in the 16th. We appreciate any other suggestions or ideas - thank you!

A period of only one month probably doesn't lend itself to a sublet. I rent apartments in Paris once a year for a month's period, and a vacation rental is about what she can expect to find. Studios for one person are plentiful and much cheaper if you do not use an agency like Paris Attitude and others. There are good places/prices to be had on vrbo.com where you are dealing directly with owners who are not tacking on an agency fee. I've rented several I found there and never a problem.
St Cirq's suggestions are excellent. For a short period like that, the classifieds might have something and PAP is searchable online at www.pap.fr. Have found one month pseudo-sublets there myself.
Does the firm where she will do the internship have any suggestions for her? Maybe she could bring it up.

I think paris attitude is in the mid-range of apartment rentals--certainly not inexpensive by any means. There are certainly other sites and vrbo is a good suggestion. Take a look at the Paris apartment thread for some more ideas. Agree that she should ask about housing where she'll be doing her internship. They may have some suggestions for her.
It's late to be looking for May of this year for five weeks, so she may not have many options.

My daughter stayed at the Maison Internationale Agroparistech http://tinyurl.com/3undx5o for a month last summer. There are a couple of dozen student dorms in this complex in the 14th. Someone here on Fodor's recommended it.

I have had luck finding apartments in Paris (and other locations) with www.homelidays.com.
I think for only a month www.pap.fr may not be the first choice but a back up. My daughter used it in Bordeaux without much success, and she was looking for a 6-month lease. Of course, much more would be available in Paris, I guess. What is her budget?

You might also try Airbnb. http://www.airbnb.com/ It is a site that allows individual property owners to rent out apartments, or rooms in their homes. Prices are usually listed as per night, but if a place interests you, you can contact the owner and many are more than willing to negotiate a much lower price for longer stays.
We rent out our guest apartment through them, and have also used them in the States when travelling, and are pleased with the company policy that allows the renter to inspect the place before Airbnb releases the money to the landlord. That really cuts down on the scams one might find with Craigslist or VRBO listings.

lodgis.fr is always a French apartment rental website that has some vacation to longer term rentals, you can try it.
There are certainly public foyers where she may or may not find a room. (a foyer is like a rooming house, if you don't know that term) That is just a weird period of time, it isn't summer yet so regular dorm rooms in the universities won't be empty yet, as far as I know. And lots of students or interns who stay in foyers will still be there, also. I don't know the 16th, but this is one in the 14th, you can check there http://www.fiap.asso.fr
Also check out www.locaflat.com I've rented a vacation apartment from them, but they also have student housing on their webpage (they call it hostel, that is a term used for French dormatories, it isn't a regular hostel). That is actually in a suburb, though. They also have some other student rooms on there, and they tend to be on the Left Bank as that is where their office is and where they specialize http://www.locaflat.com/hostel.html In fact, you could look on their for a month rental, they have some apartments on there that won't rent for less than a month (I stayed in one of them near the Sorbonne) and their rates can be cheaper than some other agencies.
This is another foyer I know in the Latin quarter where anyone can stay (meaning not one particular school) http://www.fie.fr/
It says they are completely full for this term until summer, though, but I guess you could send an email in case someone has left unexpectedly.

This is another pension (rooming house) I know in St Germain, it's a super location. Problem is they are very small, as a lot of these foyers run in older houses are (only 12 rooms or so) http://www.pension-marronniers.com/ their website doesn't seem to be anything but photos of the place, so you can email for vacancies.
