My wife and I will be in Paris for our honeymoon dec 21-28 and would love to enjoy a romantic dining experience one night while we are there. Does anyone have any suggestions? We have eaten at Tavern on the Green in NYC and DO NOT want an experience similar to that one. We don't mind spending money, but want excellent service, food, and a romantic atmosphere. We don't want to just pay for a name. Thanks for all the help!

Le Grand Vefour, in the Palais Royal, is a 3 star restaurant which dates from the belle epoque; excellent food, service, and ambience.

If I had to pick one restaurant it would be Taillevent.

We've been to Tavern on the Green several times and I don''t know what your problem was..we've always been satified and happy with a typical NY restaurant!

But in Paris you might try Pre Catalin the Bois de Bologne..that might suit what you are looking for..wonderful ambiance and food

Try Hiramatsu (no, it's not Japanese food) at 7 quai de Bourbon on the Ile St-Louis. Tiny, romantic, fab food, one Michelin star.

If I have an advice to give you is to go to the restaurant of Montparnasse Tour...you have a fantastic view of all Paris by night...Really...it's very romantic!!!

As a New Yorker I will add the opinion that Tavern on the Green is not a typical New York restaurant, at least not a restaurant where typical New Yorkers go. It has a lovely setting, but imo the food is quite mediocre at best, distinctly overpriced, and the service amateurish, especially considering the prices. Jody, yours is a minority opinion at least among locals, but it's great that for you it was a good experience.

As for Paris, I'm not sure what budget you had in mind. The places suggested above, all top-of-the-line, are going to be a few hundred euro for dinner, especially with wine.

My middle-of-the road recommendation, and it has been seconded here a few times, is Chez Julien, near l'Hotel de Ville. Family-owned, dinner under 100E pp (much less than that if you order the prix fixe), lace curtains on the window, overlooks the Seine (though there is traffic in the way.)

But there are hundreds if equally good places in the same range.

For an intimate dinner at reasonable prices with a very charming host I suggest Armand au Palais Royale. Search "restaurant Armand" on the board and look it up on reservethebest.com. for a description and pictures.

How about one pof the dining cruises on the Seine, at night, with the spotlights on the buildings and beautiful scenery going by, givingyou a real feel for the city.

Inside a restaurant,you might as well be in Denver or Duluth, except for the language.

It has been awhile but Tour d'Argent was excellent service, great food and very romantic. Get a window table for a view of Notre Dame. Very expensive.

I'd suggest Lassere, a 2* restaurant with beautiful décor and a ceiling that can be rolled back at night for a view of the stars. It's wonderfully romantic. Another possibility would be Les Ambassadeurs.

I second the recommendation for Armand at the Palais Royale. Very elegant and romantic, and it won't break the bank.

I think taking a cruise on the Seine and then going for an elegant dinner is always a better option than a dinner cruise, where the food is unlikely ever to be as good as in a good Parisian restaurant.IMO it's not at all true that in a Paris restaurant you'd just as well be in Denver or Duluth - everything, from the ambiance to the food preparation to the service is a totally different experience.
