Paris Metro Expansion: Biggest of Its Type in the Western World

https://www.theatlantic.com/magazine...gether/426870/

First I heard of this ambitious expansion of Paris' metro - called the most ambitious new subway (or metro or underground, etc) project in the Western World! Of course being mainly underground no one will notice until the entrance/exit signs go up!

(I've seen London's Cross Rail claim something like that too -biggest infrastructure project in Europe too so anyway a prodigious undertaking that promises to increase RATP ridership 40%!

You have to remember that the term Europe is multi-flexible depending on your point of view.

To the writer of your article Europe stops at Calais, though to be fair Crossrail is no longer new and Crossrail II has not yet started ;-)

Ligne 4 has been under construction for 3 years and has been extended for 4 more years.
Thé construction site keeps spreading like an amoeba...

There's no news here worth noting, except lots of tourists are going to be inconvenienced.

Crossrail is supposed to cost £15 billion.

The Grand Paris Express is supposed to cost €26 billion.

Both projects are money well spent.

These projects have a far greater impact upon those who live in the suburbs than they do on tourists, who will really not notice them at all.

The only project of interest to tourist will be the new train line from CDG to Gare de l´Est.

But there will also be metro lines to CDG and Orly.

looking at the details it seems to solve a lot of problems, though I suspect it will make a bit of a mess as crossrail did.

Anyway good on Paris for paying for all this.

Quite a bit of it in the outer suburbs will be above ground. It will only go underground in city centers.
