NORWAY itineray critique -- please give your opinion.
Hello forum goers,
Please critique our Norway itinerary below. We are seasoned travelers in our 40's traveling with a teenager to Norway in July. We contemplated driving to Geiranger (from Bergen) and taking a day in Alesund, but that would knock a day off the Lofoten Islands and a day off Copenhagen in the itinerary below. Since we will be experiencing some fjords on the NIN, and have been to New Zealand and have experienced two fjords there -- we are thinking the extra days in The Lofoten Islands and Copenhagen are the way to go. If you disagree, please let us know! Thank you in advance for your thoughts, time, and knowledge!
2 days in Olso
1 day NIN (potential overnight in Voss before heading to Bergen)
1.5 days Bergen
0.5 days flight (Bergen to Oslo to Bodo)
4 days Lofoten Islands
3 days Copenhagen

There is no point in staying in Voss. It is close enough to Bergen, and you will find a much better selection of hotels and restaurants there. 4 days in Lofoten (3 nights?) is a minimum. Hiring a car?

Yes Voss is just like a suburb of Bergen. I would stay in Bergen instead. We've stayed in a wonderful B & B which is located in back of the Bryggen in a very nice residential area. It's called To Sostre. We also have eaten at two nice restaurants which I also recommend. Litteraturhuset (Literature House in Englishand Ruccola (Italian). The restaurants along the wharf are generally like the Dennys (of America) and for tourists. Also a great coffee shop is called Godt Bread. Have a great time!!

Thank you dyoll and nanbee. We'll skip Voss then and stay in Bergen. We are not renting a car until Bodo and will do the Lofoten Islands as a self tour driving about. Thanks also for restaurant suggestions in Bergen nanabee!

Madame Philosopher;
If you're renting a car, I would suggest you include the Lofotens. Experiencing the two fjords on the NIN and possibly Gerainger Fjord from Alesund would be satisfying. Although you plan on flying from Bergen to Bodo, via Oslo, so that would probably leave out a car journey from Bergen to Alesund.
We rented our car in Bodo (guy named Christofer Solo...BMW/Citroen dealer), they picked us up at our hotel (Radisson on the harbor)and we caught the mid morning car ferry to Moskenes at the southern end of the island near the town of "A" ("aw"). Shortest name in the world. Longest is in Wales. The "long and short" of it.
Here are 30-days of some Norway pics (including the
Lofotens and Tromso as well)Enjoy Norway! It's fascinating and majestic at the same time.
