I took the "Band of Brothers" tour out of Bayeux in September 2011 and it was fantastic. Had a very knowledgeable guide with a total command of English. This outfit has obtained special permits to go onto private properties where a lot of lesser-known but very interesting events took place. The group was small and it was a great day overall.

Tour selection will depend upon when (time of day) you would be arriving, where you're arriving, and how you're arriving.

It was a few years ago now, 2006, but we did a tour from Paris to Normandy with www.paris-trip.com. We loved our guide Lionel and had a fabulous, if long day. He picked us up at our apt in the morning and dropped us back off there in the evening. Here is a link to my blog which includes all the details along with pictures. Scroll down to Day 5 to read about our daytrip to Normandy: http://www.fromhometoroam.com/2012/05/a-week-in-paris/

We did the same trip with Paris-trip a few years ago and loved it. It was perfect for us.
A small van with about 8 people max.

Will you be staying in Normandy or will you be doing a day trip from Paris? Full day tours originating in Bayeaux begin around 8:30 AM which is OK if staying locally, but this is earlier than the first train of the day arrives from Paris.

Half day tours from Bayeaux begin at 8:30 or 12:30, so possibly the later tour could work if you are training from Paris.

An alternative is to book a day tour leaving from Paris.

There are some tours offered, but a tour of the Normandy D-Day beaches is not a good day-trip from Paris. It takes far too long. You need to spend at least one night in Bayeux.

From what I understand a full-day tour of Normandy from Paris is like a 15-hour tour. Not something I'd enjoy at all. And it probably doesn't even include the incredible Mémorial at Caen, which can take 3-4 hours in and of itself before you head out to the beaches and cemeteries. As Robert says, try to plan to spend at LEAST a night in Bayeux and really SEE the area.

Seems like a very high price for one day per person

We took a full day tour from Battlebus tours in 2005; our guide was Dale Booth, who was very knowledgeable and helpful; super tour. Battlebus has since gone out of business and Dale has his own tour company now. Heartily recommend.

Excellent reviews on Trip Advisor.
