New Years.....Frankfurt or somewhere close
The last day of our trip will be Jan 1st! and we are leaving out of Frankfurt. Where would be a good place in or around Frankfurt to spend New Years Eve? The good thing is we should have a car that we will be able to return to the airport just before leaving!!

I think you'd be the first to celebrate new year in Frankfurt, that's there's no replies. It would help if you specify your budget, whether you want to go bar hopping or fancy restaurant dinner. Frankfurt is a nice big city but not much tourism for foreigners. Most foreign tourists underestimate the comfort that Frankfurt has. Beside Frankfurt old town center (Roemer square), there's a few areas that have their own old towns/center of towns. There is a great museum in Frankfurt called Staedel.
If you prefer a smaller town, most people head out to Mainz which is 20 minutes away from the airport. There is a good and reasonably priced restaurant called the Heiligen-Geist(Holy Ghost). It's a restaurant created in the structure of an old church. It has a lively atmosphere where modern meets classic stone/stucco.
If you prefer Frankfurt, let me know your budget & preference, restaurant, bar or hotel. I'm not a Frankfurt expert but I've stayed there a few times.

Are you looking for a place to stay or celebrate?
We were in Frankfurt for New Years Eve 99/00 and celebrated at Macgowans Irish Pub (http://www.macgowans.de/) as some friends were throwing a party there. It was really fun but may not be what you are looking for. We stayed at the Sofitel, but that is because it was close by our friend's home.

Thanks for the replies!
We will be in Europe from the 14th to the 1st so we will be at the end of our trip. It will just be nice to hang out with others wanting to have a good time. Our plane leaves at 10am the next day. I prefer to have a place where locals go and that doesnt close before 12am. Thanks!
