We are traveling to the south of Spain family of 4 all adults starting in Malaga. We would like to spend 3 nights in Granada and 3 nights in Seville. The last 3 nights will be in Malaga since our flight is leaving out of Malaga. Does anyone have suggestions on the cities to see in the south and places to stay? Feel free to suggest cities to see and hotels. We are on a modest budget. Thanks

We’ll, a little more information would be nice, like the time of year and an actual budget would help. A modest budget doesn’t mean much. Overall, if you only have 9 or 10 days, then it would be difficult to do more than the three places you’ve mentioned.

Traveling for 9 nights in November, with its short days, I also doubt that you could fit anything else in. And if 9 nights means 8 days, you might consider skipping one destination, perhaps Malaga.

If you don't already have one, I strongly urge that you get a good guidebook. In comparison to the cost of your trip, the cost of a guidebook will be nominal, and you will have a wealth of information at your fingertips.

Malaga is a nice spot for a couple of days.
I would give Seville a bit more time, and a couple of nights to Granada.

While in Sevilla, consider making time for Cordoba -- the Mezquita is, IMO, well deserving of its UNESCO World Heritage Site status.

If you mean you have 9 nights then I think you have allocated them all already? Or do you have further days to play with? If so, I agree that Córdoba is worth a couple of days.

We are arriving the Saturday before Thanksgiving and flying into Malaga. We are thinking of driving to Sevilla and spend three nights there. Then drive to Grenada for three nights in Grenada. Then the last part of our trip we would spend three nights in Malaga flying out Sunday after Thanksgiving. Any suggestions on hotels in either of the location would be very helpful. We are a family or four with two grown boys.That means we need two rooms. We saw something for Malaga that was $150.00 and for each room. That's a little more than what we want to spend. Is it possible to find something nice in that budget for rooms for otels?

If there is any chance that you will have jet lag, I would strongly encourage you to take public transportation for your first night or two. Although many people are not aware of it, there is mounting evidence that driving with jet lag is just as dangerous -- to yourself and others -- as driving drunk, and nothing you can do will prevent the microsleeps (which you might not even notice) that are the apparent culprit. Seriously -- NOT a good idea, no matter your other constraints and no matter your prior experience! And please be patient with me if you think I’m being overly adamant, but I know too many people who have died or been seriously injured in accidents to which jet lag was a contributing factor, and I know too many people who will spend the rest of their lives dealing with the knowledge that they were responsible for accidents that resulted in multiple deaths, including those of children, all because they were too confident in their ability to drive safely with jet lag. The issue has become a bit of cause célèbre for me….

And you don't actually need a rental car for this trip! Public transportation in Spain is easy and convenient, and having a car could be an incumbrance in the places you mention.

Thank you KJA for your input. I am planning to take a car. It provides a lot more choices plus we have 4 drivers that can help with the drive. Any recommendations for hotels?

We are flying home today from Seville. Just completed 15 night trip of southern Spain and Madrid.

I would spend at least 1 night in Córdoba and decrease Granada to 2 nights. We love Córdoba!

Stayed in Soho Malaga in Malaga.
Apartamentos suites Santa Cruz in Seville.
Ladron de Agua in Granada.
Las Casas de Juderia in Córdoba.

Happy with all of our hotels.

Karen thank you for your input. How did you find those apartments? I will look for those. we have 4 adults my wife and I and my two boys. What about parking in Malaga and the other cities? I am paying 25 a night in Malaga in a private garage. Can you park on the street? I might take you up on the single night in Cordoba. Great information thank you very much. I will have some follow up questions after I look thses up.

Someone on the travel forum recommended the apartments in Seville. They are part of a hotel so you also have the services of the hotel desk which is open 24/7. However, the apartments are in a pedestrian zone, so I don't know where you would park. We traveled by train and bus.

BTW, we loved Córdoba. It was our favorite city for an overall general experience. I have started writing my trip report, and I have posted the first installment.

We loved Malaga,which I think is an underrated city. Our friends had lunch at the Mami Restaurant on Malagueta Beach, and they raved about it. We did something different that day, so we missed the great lunch.

Karen So far we have took your recommendation and added Cordoba to our itinerary and will most likely book the two places you recommended for Seville and Cordoba. I have saved your trip report for the cities . Thanks you very much for your input.

A former responder may have appeared overcautious to you regarding driving and jet lag but I fully endorse their comments. I have been travelling for over 40 years and have driven in many countries and cities including Rome, Paris and many American cities and I would suggest you be well rested before taking on Spanish drivers in large cities. It is very easy to find yourself in tiny streets where you can shake hands with residents while they are sitting in their front rooms and you are sitting in your car. If you have to drive between towns/cities I would suggest you park the car and walk or use a bus while in the town.
Spain is a wonderful place to visit. Safe journey.

We loved Rota and Cadiz. It is so inexpensive staying here and the beach is beautiful just for walking that time of year.

Thank you Swhitehead and Macross for your comments. I have driven in Europe many times and understand the issues. I will be very careful. Macross I will have a look at those two cities. I am still looking for suggestions for Grenada. We have reservations for Malaga and Seville and Cordoba
