Meeting up in the Zurich airport

I am flying Delta from JFK to Zurich and arriving at 8:30 am. I am meeting up with my granddaughter. The rest of her family is returning to JFK at 10:15 am. What is the best way for me to meet her. I'm thinking she will have to wait for me outside security (she can't get in - she won't have a ticket, right?). Is there a good place? Is this too risky because of possible flight delays? She is 16. Thanks.

I'm thinking you are either going to have to hang around somewhere PRIOR to Immigration and Customs and hope she can meet you there or forget this. As you have been told already, having her wait outside security for you is not a good idea and for obvious reasons.

You question the safety of meeting at the Delta ticket counter outside the security zone?

Per the OP's other thread, the granddaughter is arriving by train. So there is no way they can meet up airside. (minor detail omitted from this thread )

I am sure the Helvetia bar is a good meeting point if the airport says so. Whatever happens you both go there. Nothing to worry about. Zürich is a wonderful airport, nothing like JFK's 3rd world chaos, and you will get help if you need it, everybody speaks English. I really can't see any reason to meet airside if it were possible, aren't you staying in Switzerland?

I am assuming that you don't have phones, otherwise I can't see the need for this post. Maybe you should consider getting phones?

Thanks, ticino for your encouragement. From Zurich, we're going to France by train. We will get phones.

Zürich Flughafen is a very small airport.

I don't get the comment that GD can't meet her GM airside after getting off the train.

The train from Zürich HBH stops right at the airport.

PS

JFK is my hometown airport. It does not have 3rd world chaos. You are delusional.

OP Have fun @ Moo Cow Train at Zürich Flughafen

>>I don't get the comment that GD can't meet her GM airside after getting off the train.<<

Because the GD is not flying anywhere and will not have a boarding pass to get through security.

Okay, if you're not sure about a bar, have her wait for you near the Swiss Railway's (SBB) ticket office called SBB Reisezentrum.

It is a semi-open space with the agents at the counters, easy to get to for arrivals like yourself since many arrivals head straight for the trains.

This SBB ticket office is in the "Airport Centre" building adjacent to where you show your passport as you come off the plane, after you exit the "Nothing to Declare" green door. By now you are "land-side", free to go anywhere.

Follow signs (or ask anyone) "To The Trains" - the ticket counters are on the same level as are the stairs that lead down to the trains.

Your GD, if arriving by train, simply comes up the stairs from the underground tracks and looks around - she'll see the SBB Reisezentrum in no time.
