May & June rains in Budapest?

Every day I look at weather.com and it says it is raining in Budapest and quite cold. For anyone that is there presently, is that weather site accurate? We are leaving in a week and maybe I should rethink our clothing. Hope this is not a dumb question. Just wondering and planning and getting excited about getting to your beautiful city!! I wish we could have some of your rain in Florida.

I share your concerns about the weather. I'd like to think it's a problem with weather.com but somebody I know who lives in Switzerland told me a couple of days ago that they've had no spring yet.

He said he'd put in a good word and request intervention from the Swiss President.

We're leaving tomorrow (from South Florida) for Prague, Budapest, Bruges and Amsterdam.

Our last trip to Spain two years ago was 14 days of sun.

The World Meterological Organization and Wunderground Weather are also showing cooler/rainy weather.

I am leaving in 18 days, will be in the southern part of Germany and in Austria for 2.5 weeks. Does anyone expect the rain to let up by then? As others have said, I don't really care what the weather is, I'm so looking forward to going, I just want to know what to pack!

Dear Sylbea,
Sorry to say that, but YES, it rains and rains and rains......
Yesterday there was even some snowfall in Austria and Switzerland!!!
Now (2:30 pm) it is not raining, just extremely heavy wind and the max. Temperatures around 62. But for every single coming day the weather men says it will be raining again. Another little Danube flood is coming as well. They predict real summer weather ONLY for 2!!! weeks at the end of July and early August. However I can not complain, because for me it is much better to provide the tour at 65 degrees than our normal summer time 90-es (and also I am having more customers than usually). But for tourists on their own, yes it is a really bad time to see our beautiful city. We had 5 very dry years but now we are having the second rainiest and coldest spring-summer in the last 100 years. I am even not bothering with cutting the grass in the garden. Just a waste of time! Few days later you have the same stuff again. I better wait till the end of the season. An umbrella and a wind jacket is an absolute must nowadays!
Well, let’s hope for the best.
Best regards,
Bela Lukacs

Hi Bela
Have you heard of any river cruises to be cancelled? We board the Poetry on Sunday, June 11. I did find the Danube River site and it showed that the river is rising. I read that in April they had to bus some of the passengers to another town to start the cruise. By for now.

My DH is there right now. he goes there almost weekly. It is cold and windy though sunny (for now). May and June are usually beautiful with temps in the mid 20's (C). Currently, though we are having a cold front. I am sitting in Slovenia now with 2 sweaters on and it was 4 degrees last night.

If I were you, I would bring a few layers and my leather jacket.

Dear Sylbea,
I have never had any contacts with those cruise companies. Also they have never ever announced here (radio, TV, papers etc) any river-cruise cancellations. That’s why I have no idea whether they are going to change their schedules or boarding locations.
When we had the April flood all the cruise boats had to be dislocated otherwise they would be trapped for days near the shores. There was no chance they could pass under the bridges, especially the Chain or Liberty Bridges.
Also for now we have the total road renovation program, meaning that every half mile there is a road construction. They are remodeling the Grand Boulevard tram stops (we bought the longest tram in the world) that means there is a tram-substitute bus is running along and of course occupying one automobile lane. From today they are going to renovate the Subway # 2 (Red line), it also means there would be subway-substitute buses instead, naturally occupying some (of the few remaining) car lanes. Altogether it makes driving around more than miserable. If they will close the lower Danube quays as well (it is very likely!) then we will have some real, real bad times. Especially it will be a complete disaster on June 6, 2006 after the Pentecost Holidays. We have experienced it already after the 1st of May holidays.
I am EXTREMELY HAPPY that next week I am taking some of my clients for a week long trip to Croatia and Montenegro. It will be a good chance to leave this all behind. However I am also very disappointed with this year’s weather in Europe. It shows that it is unusually cold even in the southernmost part of Montenegro where we are heading. So let’s hope for the best, maybe we still have a chance to get a few nice sunny days!
Best regards and good weather,
Bela Lukacs

Bela Lukacs,

Have you returned from your trip to Croatia and Montenegro? If so, how did it go? Is the weather any better there and in Budapest? We leave in 4 days for Budapest, Croatia and Montenegro and would love some updates and tips!

Thanks so much!!
