I recently ordered four of the TSA-approved luggage locks from Magellan's, and today we got them out to put on our bags. One of the locks didn't work, however; so I called the company, and they're sending me a replacement, no questions asked. That's good service these days!

Underhill, They have notoriously good service. I got a surge protector that didn't work in French plugs. Didn't discover this until we were in France, of course. Our hotel kindly loaned me one of theirs (probably kept for idiots like me) and when we returned to the US a couple months after I had bought it, I called Magellans and they immediately credited my account and sent me a return box to send it back.
Glad you had a good experience.

I've seen these locks in the Magellan's catalog and considered buying them, but I can't figure out what the deal is with them. Does the fact that the locks are TSA-approved mean that, if you lock your bag with one of them, it will be protected from being broken into by unauthorized persons, but the TSA will be able to open the bag without breaking the lock or ripping the bag open? How is that possible? And (assuming it is possible, and I'm just too dense to figure out how), does every single TSA agent know how to work one of these locks? It would be just my luck to use a TSA-approved lock and have a TSA agent who didn't know what to do with it break the lock anyway.

There is a code on the bottom of each lock ,. TSA has the keys to match to codes. Supposedly, every airport has the keys..but who knows for sure! I bought some but haven't used them yet. Last trip every single cable thingy was ripped off the zippers and it wasn't done by TSA because in our airort you can see them process your bags.
