Looking for private guides in Prague and Budapest.

MY husband and I will be travelling to Prague and Budapest in August and would like to hire guides in each city for two days. I'm especially interested in architecture and the Jewish Quarters. Any suggestions would be very appreciated.

We had a fantiastic walking tour of the architecture of Old Town Prague with a grad student from the university. Picked it up at the town hall and it was practically free - and since there were only 7 of us we had all of our questions answered. At that time - a couple of years ago - they had a number of other tours available.

We usually don't do tours but had heard this one was great at our hotel and it turned out to be so. (We're usually better ourselves than the generic tours since we both studied european history and have a lot of the background down pat - which is what most of the guides seems to focus on.)

I encourage you to check that out to see if it meets your needs since private guides are so expensive.

WE TOOK A WONDERFUL WALKING TOUR IN PRAGUE several years ago. I highly recommend it. It was Whitman tours, and was a walking tour of the Jewish Ghetto area of Prague. The neighborhood was in a fantastic, beautiful area of Prague.

At the time(several years ago) The meeting place was at 10:00AM in front of the Prague Intercontinental Hotel.
At the time we did not need advance reservations.
I no longer have the exact contact information, but you can google Whittman tours in Prague for specifics.

The guide was a Jewish resident of Prague. Her family was part of the remaining Jewish Community, so she had many first hand experiences to share with us.
She made the history come alive sharing her families personal experience during WWII, The Holocaust, and Modern Prague.

The walking group was small so it was very enjoyable. The Jewish Ghetto area was my favorite area for restaurants, charming streets, atmosphere.

I can second limmy's recommendation of Anna in Budapest -- we were on a Communism tour with her in May 2015 and thought it was excellent, including her sharing her own family stories and artifacts with us.

Thanks so much for your responses. I'm actually looking for someone who would do walking tours with us for 3 half days and cover a good deal of the city focusing on the key attractions but with an emphasis on architecture and interiors.

In Budapest let Bela Lukacs guide you. He speaks fluent English and is very accommodating in terms of scheduling and addressing special interests. We wanted a memorable personalized experience and we got a crash couse in the history, culture and politics of Hungary. He drove us past an abandoned communist-era factory town en route to Slovakia for a riverside lunch. Unforgettable. Contact him at mail.datanet.hu. I found him through this forum.

Hi,
In Prague I would definitely recommend Šárka [Sharka] Kačabová.
Like the Carlsberg's ad says:
"Probably the best guide in Prague"
You can find her at:
http://www.personalpragueguide.com/
If you do a little research, you can find her references on Fodor's and other travel related forums as well.

Correction! My apologies for giving incomplete contact information for Bela Lukacs, my favorite private guide in Budapest. It should be:

I just tried to click on link :http://www.personalpragueguide.com/
and my malware caught it as a MALICIOUS link.

Does anyone else have a website for a guide while in Prague and a working correct website and email address?

We will be going on a Viking River Cruise from Prague to Budapest and have 3 days in Prague to explore and would love a GREAT guide who might be able to give us an "insider's tour" of where the locals go in addition to the wonderful sights

Sorry, but it is absolutely your computer's settings, like firewall (I never ever use one, especially the one provided by Microsoft itself), virus scanner, spam checker etc.
Anytime I click on it I immediately have the home site of the Personalpragueguide. Picture of Sarka and other guides, her tour options etc., etc.
Try to open it on another computer or tablet or phone, whatever. It works fine for years
Hope it helped.

Oh, I just realized you are using a malware program. Ok, than that's the problem. Some of them are not bad, some of them are absolute rubbish. They can let in all the nastiest malware ever, and at the same time they can block absolutely innocent sites.
Just give it a try from another computer.
