London during Thanksgiving?

Thinking of booking a trip to London over the Thanksgiving holiday? Any tips? Is it a good time to travel, with kids? Is the weather ok? Thinking of either Harrington Hall or the Crowne Plaza. Anyone ever stay at euther?

P.S. Kids have been to Paris and Rome so they are good travelers just wondering if the weather is so-so if they will have a good time?

for historical weather averages you can look at www.wunderground.com

for future weather probabilities you can look at www.accuweather.com

I don't think of late November as having statistically great weather in most of the northern hemisphere, but I don't see how anyone can predict now what the weather will actually turn out to be. Some reponses could tell you that last year late November had record cold or record rain or record warmth, but that really won't help.

A lot of the great things to see in London are indoors, so you won't have to be walking around in either cold or wet weather if you don't want to, and the Tube makes travel pretty easy.
Good luck. I have a long file on London, if you'd like to see it, email me at [email protected]

Used to live in London and am planning a trip at the same time myself. It will probably be cold and the sun rises late and sets early. On the other hand:

It's much less crowded.

Airfares are lower.

Some hotels put on a Thanksgiving menu.

You aren't sitting across from your idiot brother-in-law, *again*.

Enjoy!

WE went to London a few years back for Thanksgiving - it was great. Wasn't that cold, but it did rain - then again, it is London. Stayed at the Crowne Plaza - was great and loved the location - the Victoria Station is around the corner and you are walking distance to Buckingham Palace, Westminster, Churchill War Rooms, etc... There is a great shortcut too through St. James Park - i will look up in my scrapbook - it's a flight of stairs that takes you from the neighborhood down into the park by the Horse Parade Grounds. When we were there they had just started putting up the Xmas decorations around the city as well.

I spent a Thanksgiving weekend with my parents when I was a teen. I had a good time; didn't really care about the weather. The only thing is that we got fogged in the day we were trying to leave, and all the planes were grounded. We got home a day late.

Anyway, the weather might be a bit iffy, but I wouldn't make that a reason not to go to London at that time of year.

We took the kids to London over the Thanksgiving holiday in 2003. We had a great time. It rained hard the day we arrived, sprinkled intermittently for the next day or two, then we had sunny skies for the next three days. Weather was chilly but not too cold. (40's - 50's during the day.) It was dark by about 4:30 in the afternoon so plan on things you can do after dark. The British Museum was EMPTY the night we were there. Husband took my girls to see an EPL game one night (careful for tender ears - my kids are teens so they enjoyed it immensly!), we saw a movie one night, and of course there's the pubs.

Parliment opened that week too, but we missed it because it was the day that we went to Cambridge. I wish that we had seen it.

Don't let London weather stop you from planning a trip. Plan for rain and anything else is a bonus. And since it's not a holiday there, there were no lines for anything. It was quite refreshing!
