Lodgings in London

We are spending 3 nights in London in May, and would appreciate any recommendations for hotels that would be under $200 per night. We are 3 adults, and while we know we won't get luxury at that rate, we do want a good location, (close to underground, and better yet, with interesting restaurants and shops within walking distance),safety, and cleanliness.

Use Londontown.com - you can sort by price.

$200 is approx £125 which is doable for a triple but not easy.

Look in areas like Victoria, Russell Square/Bloomsbury, South Kensington, Marble Arch (not quite as convenient as the other 3)

There are some quite cheap hotels on Belgrave Road and Warwick Way and these are very close to Victoria Station and this is an ideal site for you. It is only a 15 minute walk to Buckingham Palace and there are some excellent restaurants close by. I would thoroughly recommend the area. Use Google maps to find out exactly where it is. My wife and I have rented a house in the area several times and just love it. Don't look any further for a good location. This is it

Yes - Belgrave Rd (Victoria) is a good place to search. But even there getting a triple w/i you budget will be tough. Luna Simone is a a VERY good quality budget property in Belgrave Rd - but its triples run £140-£180 ($220-$285)

The St George's is a basic hotel in the same area (a block over from Belgrave Rd) and has triples for £120/$190

If you'd like to try a hostel, try looking for a triple room at http://www.yha.org.uk/places-to-stay/london

You can also try Hotwire or Priceline. I've had a lot of luck finding 4* hotels in London for a lot less than $200. You can research hotels, areas and winning bids at www.betterbidding.com and www.biddingfortravel.com

Typically Priceline offers room with one double ed - which simply won;t work for 3 people. So I would use other discount search engines - unless you want to get a double plus a singe.

Priceline isn't an option for you -- but Hotwire could work.
