The position of this restaurant is amazing - right on the edge of the cliff walk that leads from Positano around to Fornillo Beach. You feel like you are "hanging" over the ocean. It was inexpensive and the food was OK. We were the first people at the restaurant and the staff were all sitting at a table eating their dinner (a good sign I guess)but it was a little like we were interrupting their meal. However as more diners arrived, the atmosphere definitely picked up and if you can score a table by the railing it is definitely worth going to.

My husband and I went to dinner there with a friend last summer. After seeing the pictures in the Fodor's Amalfi book, we were really looking forward to the setting. However, the restaurant has two seating areas: one quaint balcony surrouded by the pine trees, and another area that is very utilitarian. We arrived about 7:30, early by Italian standards, requested a table in the area with the trees, but were not allowed to sit there, even though there were tables available. We couldn't figure out what the reason was as the waiter could not speak English. Maybe all of the tables were reserved. As stated in the previous response, the food was OK - nothing special. If you're set on going, maybe having a reservation would help get into the 'special' area. But it's not worth the walk just for the food - too many other great restaurants in town with beautiful views.

Our favorite restaurant is La Cambusa. It's on the beach but one level up which gives you a wonderful view of the water. The service was fabulous, the food delicious, and the price was very reasonable. We also ate a couple of times in a small town named Marina del Cantone.
We didn't wander up the hill in Positano as it was so hot last summer, we wanted to walk as little as possible. Others have recommended small restaurants near the top of the town that provide a great view with great food. Seemed like too much trouble for us when excellent food was always at hand nearby, and the balcony of our apartment had a view that couldn't be beat!

Ed - Two of my favourites are:
- 'da Costantino' (- above Chiesa Nuova)
- 'La Tagliata' (Montepertuso)
You can reach either by bus.
They also have some of the best views in Positano.
[Gerhardt Schroeder ate at La Tagliata on his last visit. He was so impressed he invited the owner/chef & family for a holiday in Germany ...]

I also recommend Lat Tagliata in Montepertuso, a family run place. The food is fresh from the garden, and they raise animals right there. I even saw Ostriches! (wonder if thats where their eggs come from. Oustanding views, and the family who runs it is charming.
