Layover in Paris...need a suggestion on my hotel.
Hey all. I'm planning a future trip, and on my return, I have a one-day layover in Paris. I'd like to do something interesting while I am there, and I would like some help choosing where to stay. Some specifics:
--I'll be getting there about 11:30 on a Sunday morning, and leaving the next day at 10:30, so I should probably be at the airport right after breakfast.
--I'd like to stay at a Hilton property, as I have a crazy amount of points, so I can stay for free.
--I am a fan of museums and history, and I'd also like to check out Paris in general. Night life would be kind of fun, but...eh. Its Sunday night, so maybe just a good restaurant in a fun area.
--I have never been to Paris before.
I was thinking I would check-in to the hotel, then maybe catch a bus/train/subway/something to the Louvre, as it's open until 6:30, and if next year is similar to this year, admission would be free on Sunday. After that, maybe dinner somewhere cool, then back to the hotel so I can catch my flight home the next morning. I don't care if I am tired...I can sleep on the flight. LOL.
Anyway, my hotel choices seem to be:
--Hilton Paris Orly Airport
--Hilton Paris Charles De Gaulle Airport (this and the previous would make the trip to the airport in the morning easy)
--Hilton Paris La Defense (seems to be in an odd area and designed for business travelers)
--Trianon Palace Versailles (no real idea, other than it's a lot of points)
--Hilton Paris Opera (the most expensive, and touted as in the heart of a shopping district...not really into shopping).
Keeping in mind what I would like to do, and where I need to be in the morning, where would you recommend I stay? Don't let any positive/negative comments I made make you think I have my mind made up...I don't. =)

At what airport are you arriving/departing? Considering the early-ish departure, before anything significant will be open, except for walking around in the early morning, I suggest you stay near the airport you're using. Drop your stuff on arrival, go into the city, return that night and be there for your flight. Others may say otherwise, but my preference is to be near the airport for morning flights.

Charles De Gaulle. On another board, they mentioned I should probably stay at the Paris Hilton Opera, then make sure I have a cab ready in the morning to get me to the airport by 0730. Thoughts?

I would stay at the CDG Hilton.. you will spend less time getting there, and dropping off your things, and if Louvre is not free that Sunday its worth the visit anyway. You can have dinner in Paris and then take the RER train back to the airport and your hotel. In the morning you will have to check in for your flight early but wont have to rush breakfast and you can arrange your hotel checkout at night when you return from Paris.
