Kiev Guide Books

I just booked our flights for a short city break to Kiev next month, for me and for DS, before he returns to university. Here in Vienna I don't have the luxury of English-language libraries offering travel guides to review, and while I know we'll see and do many of the "things to see and do," for this trip I'd like to have a guide book to bring along. Any tried and true recommendations, good or otherwise? Thank you!

You can easily get whatever guidebooks you want from Amazon - just download to your iPad.

nytraveler, but for not having an iPad and preferring (for this trip) to carry a guide book, your suggestion would be spot-on.

When we lived in the US and were preparing for overseas travel, I would commandeer the relevant travel guide books from our local library and spend a weekend thumbing through them to get a sense for which book I might want to bring with. I do not have that luxury in Vienna; I am hoping that those who have traveled to Kiev might offer suggestions on their preferred guidebook.

For Ukraine in I've used Lonely Planet and Brad.

Well Amazon actually SELLS books as well and delivers very quickly.

Have you looked to see what guidebooks they have with a lot on Kiev?

Or, you could fight Amazon's creeping monopoly by visiting your local independent bookstore. Or at least order from Barnes and Noble, which will also deliver.

Buying any guide book online is not the issue; I could have amazon.de deliver every guide book they have in stock next week. Because I don't have the luxury of poring over several guidebooks from my library before I make a purchase, I posed the question on this forum with the hope of receiving feedback from those who used a particular book while in Kiev.

bilboburgler, thank you. I've also looked at Lonely Planet's chapter on Kiev and may purchase the PDF version to print before we go. Not ideal, though.
