Italy - Germany Train Travel question

Novice train traveller here!! If you have suitcases, do you take them on-board with you or do they check in somewhere???

You carry them on board with you. And unless they're really large, you lift them up onto the rack over your seat.

I also suggest you check to see if there is a requirement for a seat reservation. Some of the Cisalpino trains, such as the one from Stuttgart to Milan virtually require a reservation particularly if you want a seat in a non smoking car.

I had a seat reservation last summer between Stuttgart and Zürich and I was glad I did because the train was crowded.

Hi A,

There are luggage racks at one end of the car (usually the end opposite from which you have entered ) for large suitcases.

Sometimes there are seats turned back-to-back that you can slip a fairly large suitcase between.
